Chapter 18: One good thing

"This week went by fast thankfully. The fundraiser was a complete success, we raised about $3,000. Perfect amount to save the park. Once we had the money, the City Hall agreed to let the park stay. Everything was smooth sailing, but not for everyone. Asheleen couldn't go to the fundraiser because she kept on thinking Jason was going to be there. I set up a weekly therapy session everyday after school for her to attend to. She didn't take it very well, neither did her mother, but it was the only thing to calm her down a notch. I told her mother the story and all she did was stand there saying to herself 'I shouldv'e been there for her, I'm such a horrible mother'. It was the only way for Ash to be able to go to therapy since her mother didn't know what was wrong with Ash. Sooner or later she had to have found out eventually. Right now I'm sitting at the office tapping away on my phone for an hour or two".

"Come on Ash, you only have 4 days left. That ain't so hard is it?" Ash and I were in a middle of an argument that started once we got out of school. "You know you didn't have to set me up for therapy sessions. Yesterday was despicable, I don't want to imagine what she would ask today" Ash slammed her locker walking away without me saying a response. I catch up to her when we reached the parking lot. "Ash that's the therpist job. They have to ask you questions to know what led up to you acting this way-"

"Then why don't I fucking tell her that I got threatened and stalked by him, plus having my brother almost killed in front of my eyes. WOULDN'T THAT BE EASIER!" She screamed in front of my face making every student pause staring at us. "I understand I've been acting weird lately Shel, but I couldv'e forgotten about the past and moved on , but now this random stranger keeps on asking questions about my past only making it worse by the minute. Please don't make me go today Shelby please!" She begged almost tearing up. The way of her words made me surrender in defeat. It wasn't my fault, I just wanted to help her through this. I'm going to take her word. "Fine. I'll cancel the appointment today and maybe for the rest of the week" I told her hugging her for dear life. This time she didn't let go. We hugged like a bunch of weirdos in the middle of the parking lot, probably causing traffic behind us. "You know Ash, I was only trying to help you, but only to realize I was making things worse. I'm sorry" I whispered onto her shoulder. A single tear of hers dropped down to the hot pavement. "It's ok Shel. I know you were only trying to help me, but next time let me solve my own problems" she manage to say before crying.

A honking of a horn startled us to our surprise. Ash quickly let go of me, dragging me across the parking lot towards her car. Once we got in Ash was the first to speak up. "Hey Shelby. Maybe just for today, don't cancel the session". My small smile turned into a full on Cheshire smirk. "You sure Ash?"

"I'm positive" She said before starting up the car. As I know it, we were heading to the therapy office.

*~*

My knees were shaking uncontrollably. I wonder if Ash is doing okay, I should've went in there with her. Sometimes she isn't fond of being alone with a stranger. But like she said, she wanted to do this on her own.

Mrs.Casper was her name. She has been a therapist for 5 years, and has a degree from college to prove it other wise. I only encountered her once. That was when I was making the appointments. She has the appearance of a model. Long silky gold hair; that was scrunched up in a bun, perfectly tanned skin, and hazel eyes that could make every guy want to get with her. Her features also include high cheek bones, and very plumped lips that could come in handy for kissing men. If this job doesn't work out for her, she can easily pull off for a cover girl model.
