"Ugh! I can't believe how stupid I am! I mean, what was I thinking? Telling them I sent an assassin after them? Why didn't I just say Azula did that? They would have believed that! Stupid!" Zuko yelled to himself as he ran away, wiping the tears from his eyes. "Fucking fuck. Ugh. Was I ever even meant to be good?"
Back at camp however, that question was already answered by 2/5 of the GAang.
"Why would he try to fool us like that?" Katara threw her hands on her hips as she shook her head in anger. "And don't blood bend me again."
"Violence ain't the answer Katara. Especially not towards someone tryin' to help us." You responded back curtly as you sat on a rock and crossed your arms and legs.
"She's right, Katara." Aang chimed in.
"Well, I think that he obviously wants to lead us into some kind of trap." Sokka turned the conversation back around.
"This is just like when we were in prison together at Ba Sing Se. He starts talking about his mother and making it seem like he's an actual human being with feelings." Katara spat.
"You was in prison with him?" You asked curiously.
Katara nodded.
"He wants you to trust and feel sorry for him so you let your guard down, then he strikes." Sokka made a striking motion.
"Well, he got a lot for people to feel sorry for 'im, ya know? He ain't got a momma, daddy, sister or nothin'. Uncle's been done locked away. Exiled from his whole country. He ain't nothing but sixteen. Y'all seen his girlfriend, not really the supportive, loving type. No friends. No pets. What's he s'pose to do. He done been talkin' to a frog ta practice askin' ta teach ya."
"Doesn't even matter. The thing is, it worked. I did feel sorry for him. I felt like he was really confused and hurt, but obviously, when the time came, he made his choice, and we paid the price. We can't trust him." Katara waved you off as you spoke, upsetting you."
"I kind of have a confession to make. Remember when you two were sick and I got captured by Zhao?" Aang rubbed his head.
"And you made us suck on frozen frogs? How could I forget? I had a wart on the flap that hangs down from the back of my throat for a month!" Sokka pointed at his mouth.
"Uvula." You told him as Toph gave you a weird look. "What? I ain't stupid."
"Sokka, I looked at it, and I told you, there was nothing there!" Katara scolded him.
"I could feel it! It's my throatal flap!" Sokka whined.
"Uvula" You corrected
"Anyway, when Zhao had me chained up, it was Zuko who came in and got me out. He risked his life to save me." Aang continued to speak.
"No way! I'm sure he only did it so he could capture you himself!" You could see that Katara was going to have a hard time changing her mind about Zuko again, but you wanted to see how this played out.
"Yeah, face it Aang, you're nothing but a big prize to him."
"That ain't true. Aang ain't a prize to him. He was the key to saving his life. The only thing to get his family and his home back. Ain't Aang the same thing to you? The only thing to get your Southern Water Tribe back? Ya father back? Ain't you no different?!" Your voice raised slightly and you took a deep breath and slowed your heart rate down. You didn't need to get upset right now.
