You Were Never There

You were never there to wipe away my tears,
You were never there to quell my rising fears.
You were never there to catch me when I fell,
You were never there in the stories that I tell.

You were never there to hear about my day,
You were never there to chase my doubts away.
You were never there to tuck me in at night,
You were never there when I woke up in a fright.

Though you were never there, I wasn't on my own;
I have many fathers now, they've been here as I've grown.
You've thrown away your chance, I don't need you any more.
The window isn't open and you've closed the only door.
