Chapter 6 ~ He came back

I yanked the key out of the ignition shoved the driver's door open and glanced at the house. All the lights were off except the kitchen light. Oh god , what if she hurt him?

I ran to the front porch, soaked, and pulled the door open and stared at my surroundings in shock. It was worse than last time, vases were broken, her whole china set demolished and in pieces on the floor.

I was taking in all of shattered thing when I noticed a figure balled up in the corner of the room. I stumbled over things as ran towards them and kneeled beside them. Their head lifted up as I realized who it was. Logan. His face was stained with tears and he had a very swollen, black left eye.

"Oh My God Lo, what happened?" I asked as I pulled him into a hug. He began to sob as he put his head into the crook of my neck. I let him melt into me as he continued to cry. He wasn't usually the one to cry in these kind of situations but I can see why he is. Dad was his role model, the only thing he wanted to be in life and to see that he tore our family apart and left him with scars that he'll remember forever is devastating.

"He came back," he whispered just loud enough for me to hear.

"B- but he I-is leav-ving aga-in, f- for another w- women," he managed to get out between sobs. That bastard. I knew he was having affairs, he would usually came home late 3 days a week from "work", and that had continued for months until now, when he left us. I never thought they would go that far, as far to have him give his family up.

"I can't believe he left us Hal, he left." I ruffle his hair in attempt to soothe him as I would usually do when he's sick. He squeezes me tight in attempt to hold on to the only real family he has left that he can count on and my heart breaks for him. He shouldn't have to go through this. No one should.

"Hey lets get some ice on that okay," I said as he nodded and we both got up. I walked over to the fridge and got some frozen peas out of the bottom and gave it to him.

"Lo who did this?" I asked as he mumbled something in response. "Who?"

"Dad." He whispered again, a little louder. "I'm going to kill him." I yelled as I stood up but Logan pulled me back down.

"No hal it was my fault, I yelled at him and he got upset and hit me. I provoked him, don't worry about it I'm fine, let it be," he tried to calm me. I pulled my arm out of his grasp and stood back up.

I felt a feeling I knew too well crawling up me like an avalanche. The feeling like the walls were caving in, squeezing the little breath I had left away. I hadn't had one in ages but they trigger when something traumatic happens, well if this isn't a disaster I don't know what would be.

I had been on meds to help with my anxiety but at this point, they weren't helping a ton. I inhaled a few deep breaths, willing the feeling to go away, in fear of showing this side of me to my little brother.

"Hal are you okay? You look like you're going to pass out." He shot a worried look my way and tried to shake off the feeling that was overwhelming me. "Um yeah I'm fine, I just- um, I'll be right back," I turned toward the door and walked towards it.

When I reached it I pulled the door open and my eyes met with another set, my mom's. Her stance showed uttermost guilt, her eyes were big and puffy and she was head to toe soaked in rainwater. She opened her mouth to speak but I cut her off.

"How the hell could you do this to Logan, leave him alone after our dad left. You are supposed to be the mother here, but right now you aren't, we are struggling as much as you are but you just decide that you are going to shut us out and drown yourself in alcohol. That is not what mothers do, they are supposed to take care of the children."

"You're supposed to be there when they need you, but you are doing none of that, instead we are taking care of you and fixing your mistakes. Step up Mom, we need you and not this drunk you have become." I finished as tears stained my face and pushed past her. Leaving her standing in the doorway.

"Halston wait!" She yelled but I was too far gone to respond as tears blurred my vision. I ran out of the driveway and into the road, not knowing where to go but knowing exactly what to do. To do what I always do.

Run. I ran not caring if I was shivering, soaked from head to toe with converse on. I ran until my lungs burned so badly I could barely breathe, then I ran every further.
