Heat water in a pan, add saffron, 1/3 cup sugar. Bring to a boil and make thick sugar syrup. When the sugar syrup has thickened, take off the gas and keep aside. In another pan on medium flame, boil and reduce the milk to 1/4 it's original quantity, stirring continuously. Add powdered cardamom, sugar and mix well. Keep stirring for another 5 mins and then take off the gas and keep aside. Take the bread slices, cut the sides, and then cut them into triangles. Heat butter in a pan, shallow fry the bread pieces till they are golden brown and keep aside. Dip each slice in the sugar syrup for 1 minute. Arrange the bread slices in a serving dish, pour the reduced milk mixture over them, and garnish with chopped dry fruits/nuts. Serve warm.
