I woke up in a hospital bed, with the annoying sound of a heart moniter beeping in my ear. My head was killing me and I moaned, rolling to the side a little bit. A sharp pain shot up my back and I layed on my back again, letting my head fall to the side.
"Try not to move so much," a familiar voice said. I forced my eyes open and saw Liam sitting in a chair next to me.
"Haven't heard from you in a while," I said, giving him a weak smile. Liam smiled and stood up, wiping my wet hair off my forehead.
"Yeah, I've been with Ni. He's been a little freaked since the poolside incident," Liam explained, sitting on the end of my bed.
"Can you sit the bed up for me?" I asked. Liam picked up a wierd looking remote and pressed a button. The upper end of the bed slowly rose. "Thanks," I mumbled as the bed came to a stop.
"No problem," he said, putting the remote down.
"So, where are the others?"
"On their way. You caused quite a traffic jam." I smiled a little.
"So how did you get here so fast?"
"I was already here. I needed some kidney tests done and I canceled when I saw you coming in on a gurney." I grew a little concerned.
"Are you okay? Like, any problems with it?"
"A little achey lately, but I'll just rescheduale. It's fine Zayn, you need to focus on getting better." I nodded and rubbed my hurting head.
"So, do you know what happened?"
"Well, you drove through a red light into a fourway intersection. You came out with a minor concusion, some cuts and bruises, and you messed up your spine some, but nothing perminate. You're really lucky." I looked over at the water bottle on the counter. Liam caught on and grabbed the bottle for me. I popped the cap and swallowed a few large gulps, trying to ease the headache a little. "And I have the strangest feeling that that wasn't an accident," Liam said as he sat down. I capped the water off and placed it on the table next to me.
"Uh, yeah, Harry's really mad at me and I wasn't thinking straight." I felt so stupid and humiliated. We sat there quietly for a while. "Did anyone else get hurt?"
"No, just a lot of damage. Everyone expects you to pay for it." I nodded, getting why they want me to pay.
"Okay, good" Liam moved a little closer to me.
"Don't feel bad about this. I know how Harry feels. Rememeber when I scared him on the plane, and you had to get me away from him?" I nodded, that memery scaring me for life. "I didn't understand what was going on with him, so I blamed him for it. He's blaming you over something you have no control over. Trust me, nothing feels worse then losing your best mate over something you didn't understand." I sighed and he pat my leg carefully. My back was killing me again. "Are you hurting again?"
"Yeah, can you get a doctor?"
"Sure thing." He stood up and walked out the door into the hall. My jaw tightened as I readjusted some. Oh damn, I screwed up big this time. Liam and a male nurse walked into the room.
"Hello Mr. Malik, how are you?" the nurse asked, picking up a clipboard on the counter.
"Damaged," I said with a weak smile. The nurse smiled and sat on the side of my bed. He did some normal tests that you would get done at a checkup.
"So, we'll keep you overnight to make sure you don't have anymore back problems, but you should be good to go tomarrow morning," he said, slipping a needle into my arm. It didn't really hurt, but it wasn't plesent. I noticed I had a new cast as well. It was blue and it gave my fingers more mobility. Good, I hated the restriction I had before. A calming numbness spread through my back, the pain simply fading away.
"Better?"
"Much, thank you." The nurse gave me a smile and left the room. Liam sat back down on the end of the bed, looking a little concerned.
"I just talked to Si." This doesn't sound good.
"And?"
"He is not a happy Brit." Well, I wouldn't expect him to be. Liam bit his lip and rubbed his side where his one kidney was."
"Are you hurting?" I asked.
"Yeah, I think I had too much Gatorade earlier or something. It's not that bad."
"If you had both working, I wouldn't be concerned, but you only have one. You should go get checked out." Liam stopped rubbing, but he was obviously still in pain.
"Well, they call me Liam Payne for a reason," he said with a smile. I grinned and rolled my eyes. Liam's funny like that, good at playing on words.
"Yeah, that's why." He smiled and his phone started ringing again. He looked at the caller ID and pressed talk.
"Hey Ni, I'm putting you on speaker," Liam said, pressing speaker and setting his phone on my leg.
"Hey Liam, how's Zayn? Still talking to the walls?" Ouch, that hurt.
"I am, thanks," I replied bitterly. I could sense his discomfort.
"Oh, okay. Um, how are you?" he asked akwardly.
"Fine."
"That's good."
"Sure."
"Well, um, the lads and I are almost there." With that, Niall hung up the phone. Liam turned off his phone and shoved it in his pocket. I closed my eyes and layed my head back.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, um, can you get me something to eat?" I asked, keeping my head where it was. The bed rose as Liam got up and left the room. A tear slid out of the corner of my eye from the pain Niall's words contained. I hate this. The guys don't want to be near me anymore. Harry and maybe Ronnie hate me right now. Simon's going to kill me and management is going to chew me out. My eyes opened again and they landed on a syringe on the countertop. I could faintly see the word painkiller on the side of it. I sat up and stared at it, trying to convince myself not to do this.
"Do us all a favor," Gabe said, standing in the doorway. I looked at her, frightened from what she was saying. It's true though. I screwed up huge, and I don't know if One Direction will be able to recover from this. I pulled my feet to the side of the bed and stood in front of the counter. My casted hand picked up the needle and inspected it. It was so full of the numbing fluid. I bed if you pierced it into the right place, you could to a lot of damage.
"Remember the numbness from earlier?" Gabe said, wondering over to me.
"Yeah," I said lightly, looking at her.
"Imagine your entire body like that. Until your heart just slows to a stop. No pain, no nothing. That's just it." My hand was shaking a little, understanding what was happening.
"I don't know Gabe," I said quietly. Gabe stroked my cast with her small, thin fingers.
"Believe me Zayn, you've been causing a lot of problems lately. I know what the guys have been calling you lately. A freakshow, a wierdo, a psyco."
"They don't think that."
"You're right, they don't think that. They know that." My hand holding the needle tightened and the tip pierced my index finger. My tip felt a little numb and I touched it. I can't feel the tip. I did want this. I don't want to feel the pain that I've caused anymore. "How does that feel?" Gabe asked. I smiled.
"Good," I said, sitting back on the bed. I moved my jacket so the needle had a clear shot at my chest. I as about to strike when I couldn't bring myself to doing it.
"What are you waiting for?" she asked inpatiently.
"Gabe, I can't."
"Just do it! Do everyone a favor! No one can stand you anymore! Just do it!" I shut my eyes and jammed the needle into my chest. My chest erupted in pain before I pushed the fluid into my body. Liam walked in as the syringe slid from my fingers and bursted on the floor. My heart was pounding, but not for long. Liam grabbed my shoulders as I fell back on the bed. I could tell he was yelling, but I couldn't hear his words. Liam began to blur and the last thing I remembered was the smug smile on Gabe's face.
