I walked to the Janitor' s Closer with Adam trailing behind me. I grabbed the broom and dustpan, and the roll of trash bags, and turned only to be inches apart from him.

We both just froze, and I could hear his jagged breaths as his puppy dog eyes scanned my entire face. I finally broke eye contact, and looked down, clearing my throat awkwardly. He did the same, backing up a few inches.

I stiffly handed him the broom and dustpan, and he grabbed them and gestured for me to walk past him.

As we walked back down the hall toward the auditorium, I glanced over my shoulder to see him staring at the ground, his face red.

I decided to ignore the obvious awkward silence.

"You start with sweeping the stage, and I'll start cleaning up the Orchestra Seats."

"Ok." His response was so simple, so quiet, so not Adam that it honestly made me mad.

I gave him an eye roll, even though he couldn't see me as I unlocked the stage door to the auditorium.
