I set up my camera and sit on the couch, patiently waiting with Khloe, my sister, for Trayce to get home.
He's coming back from a week-long road trip and to celebrate, I'm filming a prank for our youtube channel.
I'm doing the 'I cheated on you' prank, and I know, it seems cruel, but it's me getting him back for a home invasion prank he pulled on me before he left.
My phone buzzes and I pull it out of my pocket to check it. Nolan, Trayce's best friend who just so happens to be in town for the Rockies @ White Sox series, sends me a text telling me he and Trayce are on their way up to our apartment.
I stand, smoothing my skirt out and walking to the door so I can greet my boyfriend when he walks in.
I take a breath, combing through my long straight hair with my fingers. I play what's about to go down in my head, thinking about what I would say if Trayce said this or if he said that. I want to be prepared for whatever jumps up at me.
I see the doorknob turn, and I step back, letting Trayce and Nolan walk into the living room.
"Hey baby," Trayce greets me, pulling me close to him by my waist. I rest my hand on his cheek and reach up to kiss his lips.
I act concerned from the start, hoping it would throw him off.
Trayce's hand snakes to my hip, and he looks down at me. "Are you okay?" He asks, his eyebrows furrowed and his face full of concern.
I take his hand off my hip and hold it in mine. "There's something I need to talk to you about."
He nods, dropping his backpack right where he was standing and follows me to the couch.
"We'll be in the other room if you guys need up," Nolan says, Khloe standing next to him. "You got this Daya?" He asks, looking down at me and putting his hand on my shoulder.
His comment and gesture were enough to make Trayce uneasy; I could see it on his face.
I nod and bring my hand up to Nolan's, squeezing it slightly, "I'll be fine."
"Daya, what's wrong babe?" Trayce asks, his eyes following Nolan while he and Khloe leave the room.
"I have to tell you something Trayce." My voice was pressing, and I held both his hands in mine. He was leaning against the back of the couch with his legs spread and me sitting in front of his.
I look down, but Trayce is quick to gently lift my head back up. "You've never been afraid to tell me something before. What's going on? Are you okay?"
"I'm sorry," I tell him, wondering how I was going to elaborate this more.
"What are you sorry about babe?" He sits up straighter and leans forward.
I tighten my lips in a straight line and tilt my head so that my neck cracks. "You know how I went out yesterday?"
"Yeah, you went to get your nails done. They're pink now; they were white when I left." He sounds so confused, so I grip his hand tighter.
"I did get my nails done, but after that, I met up with Nolan for lunch. The Rockie's flight came in yesterday morning."
Trayce shakes his head, "Daya is that all?" He smiles and kisses my forehead. "You had me nervous there baby. I'm fine with you having lunch with Nolan. I trust you."
I look him in the eyes and purse out my lips, "It wasn't just lunch though Trayce."
He turns his head to the side and raises his eyebrows. "I don't get what you're saying, babe."
"He took me back to his hotel room," I pause and break our eye contact, "and we uhm, we had sex."
I look back up, watching as Trayce drops his head in his hands. "Don't say that, Daya." He shakes his head. "I know you wouldn't do that. Why are you saying that?"
I don't respond. I reach out my hand, but he pulls back when my skin comes in contact with his. "I'm sorry," I whisper, tears in my eyes. None of this was real, but seeing how sad he was made this whole prank feel so real.
"Why would you do this Daya? I've given you everything. I've never made you sad, I've never done anything to make you mad. I've treated you so well, how could you go and do this?"
Seeing the tears well in his eyes and slip down his cheek made my heart stop.
He stands up, and I follow. "Trayce," I beg, taking a step closer to him. He backs away.
"I just don't get this Daya. I love you, how could you do this to me?" He turns around, swinging his fist down on the counter behind him.
His anger got the best of him, and he walks away from me, storming down the hallway and screaming out Nolan's name.
"Oh shit," I mutter, grabbing the camera and chasing after Trayce.
I call out my boyfriend's name, not stopping until I reach the guest room where he, Nolan, and Khloe were all in.
"Trayce, babe, it's a prank. Here look, I have the camera." I grab his arm, showing him that I was recording.
He looks at me, staring for a second before letting out a huge sigh of relief. I hand Nolan the camera, and Trayce immediately envelopes me into a huge hug.
He buries his face into the crook of my neck and strokes my jawline with his thumb.
"I thought I was going to lose you," he whispers, and I could feel the wetness from his tear drowned hemline grazed against my chest.
I lean back, resting my hand on his chest and leaning up to kiss him. "You'll never lose me, baby, I promise."
He hugs me once more, before pulling away and turning towards Nolan.
"I'm sorry dude," he says with a sly grin, and they both break out in laughter.
"It's fine man, but only because this video is going to get hella views."
I chuckle, shaking my head and taking the camera from Nolan.
"C'mon," I tell Trayce, grabbing his hand, "I need you to film the outro with me."
He groans but follows me to the couch. We set the camera up and start our outro.
"I hope you guys enjoyed today's video of me getting Trayce back for that stupid home invasion prank he did-"
"I didn't enjoy it," Trayce cuts me off, and I roll my eyes, laughing as I do so.
"Make sure you give this video a thumbs up and hit that subscribe button for more! And like always, I'm Daya,"
"And I'm Trayce, and we'll be back in two days with another video."
