"This is why he should be in that pipeline!" Harry shouts at everyone, a smug look on his face.
"Harry, he was provoked," Barry defends the ghoul, "the same thing happened when I created Flash Point!"
"No, your father was killed. You were heartbroken, but you were not provoked!" Harry retorts angrily.
"Yeah?" Barry raises his voice, "and do you know what Flash Point did? It killed Cisco's brother, it made Diggle have a son instead of a daughter, and many more things! I was selfish, and that has killed and it has changed the future. In a way I am no different than Kaneki, I want a family, something for myself, and I will do anything in my power to make that happen. I will become stronger to protect the people I love." Kaneki stares at Barry in his red suit, his pulled mask off, with a new sense of understanding and a warm feeling of a common moral.
"Ken, do you know how to get home?" Touka interrupts Kaneki's attention on the argument.
"Not entirely," Ken says as he stares off in thought, "Cisco can travel between parallel planets or dimensions, called the multiverse. However, he does not have an abundance of stamina like we do, so he will tire easily and we may be stuck in a worse place than our home."
"Kaneki, Touka, why do you want to go back?" The blonde woman, Felicity, asks.
"I have not been fully truthful," Ken starts, then continues once he has everyone's attention, "ghouls are generally born to be ghouls, however I was once human. A doctor used the organs of a ghoul to save my life. Eventually, I met Touka and the staff at a coffee shop, who taught me how to find food without killing people. With my background of being human, I understand the fear that is felt when something is hunting you, but as a ghoul I have to struggle to control my need to eat and fight for my life against humans who believed all ghouls are evil.
"Through a couple years of gaining strength and changing personalities, I found my purpose. I want to create a place where both ghouls and humans can coexist. Not every ghoul wants this, but there are many who wish to live normal lives. Some want to go to school, but they can't because of something they didn't choose. That is why we want to go back." The whole group is speechless, until Caitlin's curiosity seems to get the best of her:
"Where did you get those scars? You were very vague with how you gained strength." Ken remains silent as he hesitates, while the whole room awaits his reply.
"You don't need to te-," Barry is cut off by Kaneki's reply,
"It was torture, for the most part. There were a few fights where I couldn't heal properly. Most of my bones were broken during the torture as well, and the rest during other fights."
"Wait," Felicity asks finally catching up, "you mean to tell me that you've changed personalities before?"
"I don't like to talk about," Kaneki pauses to debate on whether or not he should use the name, "him."
"Be honest, Ken," Touka says, "you don't remember much of it. Nor did he remember anything about your past. He did the best he could, especially since the Doves got him. They used the both of you."
"What 'doves' are you talking about?" The large muscular man, Diggle, asks.
"They are the CCG. Ghoul Investors, who believe every ghoul lives and preys on humans for the fun of it without any emotions. Ghouls call them Doves. When my personalities changed, one of the best CCG Investors found and trained this other person to fight against ghouls. He didn't know who he was before nor who I was. He was the leader of a group, who all died when he didn't have enough to eat," Kaneki says with a sigh of annoyance.
"So how was the suit?" Cisco asks, desperately trying to change the subject.
"It's better than my old suit," Ken replies, appreciative of the topic change. The male ghoul fidgets with his mask, he feels this desire to break the silence.
"I'm back!" The voice, who named itself Crazed Jester, expresses its happiness.
"Devour them," Centipede's voice suddenly demands, muffling any other voices, in the half ghoul's moment of weakness. Ken's eyes widen with surprise, while his left eye changes into that of a Ghoul's.
"Centipede," Kaneki mutters quickly, as he covers his left eye.
"Ken," Touka tries to gain her husband's attention, "Ken, are you hungry?" Kaneki stares at the ground for a moment of thought, then he stands.
"I need to clear my head," he says in a tone that demands that he doesn't want to be followed. Without another word, he walks out if the lab.Touka watches Kaneki walk out of the room. She notices his body is stiff, she knows he's holding something back.
"Is he alright?" The Flash's wife, Iris, asks.
"Yes, he needs time alone," Touka replies. No one seems to know what to do, Touka waits for her husband to return. It only takes a few moments before Kaneki walks back into the room with a patch over his left eye.
"Lets go," he says softly, "we both need food." Touka takes his outstretched hand and follows him.Words~ 897
