hugging you was the best part of my week.

didn't hit me how much i missed you until i heard your laugh explode from the doorway and i spun around so fast i almost fell over, and i saw your familiar smirk light up the room, from across the way, topped off with cheeks tinted slightly pink because you were hours late and no doubt jogged from your car because the party was almost over, and i found out after, that someone had texted you that i was here and wanted to see you and that's the only reason you came.

but in that moment my heart still jumped nearly out of my chest because everybody had told me you weren't coming and i hadn't seen you in a month i think i forgot how pretty you are when you do that thing
with your lips
and your cheeks
and your eyes
and you smile
at me.

and then my legs were moving and i stepped up onto that plastic chair because you were on the other side of it and i fell right into your denim covered arms and your name fell out my mouth in a sigh that felt a little too much like home. my shirt rode up and your arms were wrapped almost all the way around me and the familiar feeling of you but especially the way the warmth of your fingertips on my hip bones contrasted with the rougher denim of your jacket, and the metal buttons pressed into my stomach, still soaked in the cool night air, sent chills down my spine and you mumbled hey how've you been? in your softest voice into my hair;
and i think i melted on the spot.
