Over the next few days, I've been feeling guilty for feeding off of that woman. Indi, Alex, and Raven have only drank blood bags, and as far as they know, so have I. But I hate the fact that they don't know I fed off of two people. First Dr. Nelson, and now that woman. I felt like everyone was looking at me.
It was gloomy day as always. Sometimes it's as if the only times you'll ever see the sun is during the weekends. I felt pretty antisocial today so I kind of didn't talk to anyone at school today. That's until I saw Jeremy and immediately got lost in his blue eyes.
"Hey." He said to me as he placed his bag on the ground and sat in the seat next to me.
"Oh um, hi." I said, snapping out of my trance.
"I'm adding a few finishing touches on the project before the due date tomorrow." He said. Jeremy and I both worked real hard on the project. He was very confident about it, but I haven't really paid much attention to it.
"That's great" Jeremy noticed me anxiously tapping my pencil on my notebook and shaking my leg.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine" I nodded.
During geometry, I decided to at least tell someone about what happened the other night. Someone who knew all my secrets, so I turned to Freddy.
"I fed on someone." I told him.
"What?!" He said in such a shock that it made me feel even more regretful.
"The other night, I was studying at Jeremy's and he accidentally gave himself a paper cut and I almost fed on him." I began, "After I left, I just had this extreme craving for blood. I was...hungry, and my head and ears were pounding, and I fed off of some woman."
"You can't keep doing that."
"I made her forget."
"It doesn't matter, the more people you feed on, the more suspicions are raised."
"I know." I said, looking down as if I were a child getting scolded by their parents. Indi, Alex, and Raven then joined us.
"Glad you're all here." Freddy announced, "I'm gonna help you control your thirsts for blood."
"How?" Alex asked.
"First thing you guys need to know, you know those unresolved police cases that usually pop up once in awhile?" He asked.
"Yeah, what about it?" I asked.
"Those were all vampire cases." Freddy said, "There's a huge world out there you guys don't know about. And you may wanna know what's out there, but you have to if you want to survive."
"I just have one question." Indi said, raising her hand halfway, "Could we turn into bats?" "Takes concentration, but you can." Freddy said.
"Sweet." she said, laying back on her seat.
"Back it up." Raven began, "How did vampires even come to be in the first place?"
"There's so much lore, all say different things. Some say a witch cursed a man with immortality and a constant thirst for blood. Others say a man was bitten by a feral bat, died from the infection later that night, then came back undead." Freddy explained.
"You know, if we ever have a high school reunion in 20 years, they're probably gonna ask how we still look sixteen."
"I'm so gonna enjoy that." Indi said.
"Guys focus." Freddy said, "Now that you're, the v-word, you have to be a lot more careful. Any slip up, and they will take you, burn you on the stake, and you'll be dead."
"Sorry" I said.
After geometry, the girls and I walked to our lockers to get our books for Spanish class. Chloe passed by and gave me the stink-eye as usual. Jeremy also walked towards his locker, which was conveniently right next to mine.
"Hey again." He said.
Alex, Raven, and Indi all smirked at me simultaneously and backed away. I rolled my eyes at them.
"Hey." I said, slightly blushing.
"Your friends like to disappear whenever I walk up to you" He noticed.
I rolled my eyes. "They're idiots."
"Oh okay, got'cha" He laughed off, "Um hey look, I was wondering if maybe you'd like to hang out or something." This stunned me, and I almost fainted. Was he asking me out? Relax Lucy, it's probably just a friend thing.
"Yeah sure, totally, where would you like to go?" I asked.
"Maybe we can get fro-yo?" He said, "If you like that, if you don't it's fine we can-"
"No yeah, I like fro-yo." I smiled, "So tomorrow night?"
"Sounds good to me." He said, "I'll pick you up."
"Okay." I smiled, almost too hard.
"See you at lunch."Jeremy said, turning around and walking to class. I then turn around and silently whispered "Yes!" to myself, I cannot believe Jeremy Tobin actually asked me out. I may just be overreacting though, he probably only sees me as a friend, but if he does see me as more than that, perfect. If he doesn't, at least I can sleep knowing Jeremy actually notices me. I couldn't wait to tell the girls. I literally couldn't stop smiling.
During Spanish, we had to sit in groups of four, so Alex, Raven, Indi, andIi obviously got into groups. That's when I decided to tell them.
"I think Jeremy asked me out." i whispered.
"What do you mean you 'think'? Did he or did he not?" Raven asked.
"He asked me to go out for fro-yo." I smiled. The three of them gasped and the four of us silently freaked out.
"Lucy's all grown up!" Alex said, jokingly.
"Yeah, but don't forget this." Indi says, handing me a condom. I gasped and quickly snatched the condom off the table before anyone noticed.
"Indi!" I said, still shocked, "We're only going out for fro-yo, not doing it on the clouds!"
"Yeah, but then after, you know." Indi smirked. The girls still giggling.
"Seriously, where'd you even get this?" I asked, looking at the condom from under my table.
"I stole it from health class. Quite the habit." Indi said. I rolled my eyes and continued doing my work.
"How did he say it?" Alex asked, "Was he nervous? Shy?"
"More like, confident, I guess. Why would a hot guy like him be nervous about asking me out?" I asked.
"Because he's totally into you!" Raven exclaimed.
"Maybe it's just a friend thing" I said, "Ever considered that?"
"What boy asks a girl out for frozen yogurt alone? Take your chance, before someone else does. I'm sure you don't want Chloe getting her claws on him." As soon as Raven said that, I effortlessly snapped my pencil in half with one hand.
"Don't forget we're still vampires." I said, holding both sides of the broken pencil, "What if I accidentally, you know, hurt him?" I asked, looking down in shame.
"Something tells me this almost happened before." Alex said.
I exhaled. "The other day when I went to go study with him, he got a paper cut, and then I almost lost control. If i hadn't gone to the bathroom and breathed, I would've fed on him."
"Then just keep doing that." Indi suggested.
"On every date we'll ever go to?" I asked, "Every time he gets a cut? He'll suspect something."
"Boys never suspect anything. Plus, a girls gotta do her business, boys know that." Indi said.
"Business meaning not trying to kill him over a piece of paper." Alex said.
"Very reassuring." I said, rolling my eyes.
"You can always tell him blood makes you queasy." Raven shrugged.
"Right." I said, clenching my teeth trying not to think of blood, "We should get back to work". I said, trying to change the subject. The four of us then pretty much half-assed the Spanish assignment for the rest of class.
It was lunch now, and the four of us sat together as usual, and accompanied by Freddy this time, who now checks up on us from time to time.
"So Freddy, wanna hear the news Lucy told us last period?" Indi said smugly.
"What news?" Freddy asked.
"She lost her virginity." Alex blurted out.
"Shut up!" I gasped, "Jeremy asked me to hang out and get fro-yo with him tomorrow night." I explained.
"Oh...that's cool." Freddy said in such a bland tone, it left me almost unsatisfied. I expected him to freak out and all.
"Speak of the devil and he shall come." Raven said, looking over my shoulder, seeing Jeremy walk towards the table. Jeremy sat next to me and said hi to me and the other girls.
"What're you guys up to?" He asked.
"We were just talking about the Spanish assignment from last period." I said, smiling at him.
"Oh yeah, Spanish is not my best subject." Jeremy admitted, "However, I can speak Russian."
"Really?" I asked.
"ты выглядишь очень красиво сегодня." Jeremy said.
"Sorry, what?" I asked.
"That means, you look very beautiful today." Jeremy clarified. I melted once he said that. I knew the girls were smiling super hard.
"Well, I have to study." Freddy said. He then got up and started walking away from the table.
"Freddy, you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah I'm fine, don't worry." Freddy said, continuing to walk away.
"What's up with him?" Indi asked.
I shrugged. "I don't know"
That night, I went to bed, thinking about a bunch of shit. Freddy's sudden behavior change, Jeremy asking me out, the blood lust, and just being a vampire. It took me an hour before I drifted off to sleep.
The next night, I got ready for my date with Jeremy. I didn't want to overdress so i just wore a basic outfit. After doing my makeup, I took almost five minutes to tie my boots because I kept daydreaming. I then got a text from Jeremy saying he was waiting outside.
"Mom, i'm going out." I said.
"Okay sweetheart, be safe." She said.
I grabbed my purse and walked out the door to find Jeremy standing by the stairs.
"Hey there beautiful." He said.
"Hey handsome." I said, smiling.
"Ready to go?" He asked.
"Totally." I said.
The both of us then started walking and talking all the way to a frozen yogurt place named Menchies. We decided to take a shortcut but Jeremy tripped and broke his fall by landing on his knee.
"Oh my god, are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah i'm fine." He said, getting up. He was bleeding from his knuckles, "Just a scratch."
That's when it felt like a ball dropped inside my stomach, and felt like something was tugging at me. He then rolled up his pant leg and he was bleeding on his shin.
"Wow." He said, "Don't worry though, i'll just walk it off."
He looked up, then I felt my fangs beginning to unleash. I bit Jeremy's neck with all my strength and fed on him.
Then I woke up. I was terrified and anxious. I sat there on my bed. It was quiet and dark.
"Oh my god." I whimpered into my hands. I checked the date on my phone. It was 3:30 a.m. Friday. It was just a nightmare. I hesitantly checked the last message I sent to jeremy, asking what time we were gonna meet up tomorrow. I felt relieved, but was still shaking. What if I can never control my blood lust?
