CHAPTER NINE: REVELATIONS

Friday night. The girls and I hosted a sleepover at my house. Tonight we could at least spend more time focusing on finding the two evil vampires wreaking havoc in Woodstake. But there was also Indi and Alex bringing up the double date me, Jeremy, Raven, and Daniel would have.
"Two hours, and whole lot of nothing." I said, frustratingly slamming my computer mouse against the table.
"Maybe we're looking in all the wrong places." Alex noted.
"Alex, I swear to god if you mention the date again, I will stake you." I was boiling at that point. Alex made a 'chill-out' motion with her hands.
"I was just gonna say, all we've been doing is looking at the lore." Alex mentioned, "Vampires are burned by holy water, vampires can only be killed by a stake through the heart, vampires are repelled by crucifixes, need i say more?"
            "What are you saying?"
"We're still not one-hundred-percent sure that the lore is correct about everything. Maybe, instead of trying to catch the vampire from outside, we try to catch him from the inside." I was still visibly confused. "Alright, well have you looked at your dad's police file?"
            "Well...no."
"What do you think we're gonna find there?" Indi questioned, "Oh, vehicle loses control, goes over bridge, poor tragedy." Indi looked at me, I was giving her the stink eye. "Sorry Luce."
"Do you know how many things the police hides from people to ease the pain?" Alex asked. Alex did have a point. My dad's file could hold some important detail to figuring out who the vampires are.
"Lucy, would your dad have some sort of a rival, an enemy, someone who would want to hurt him, or you for that matter?" Raven asked.
"I'm not sure." i confirmed, "My dad got along with everybody. Literally everyone he or we knew were at the funeral."
"Well, we do need some suspects." Raven said.
"I'm sorry, I don't know anyone." I claimed. "I think maybe we should look at dad's file, but not tonight....I think we have enough to deal with." I began to smile, it seemed like Indi practically read my mind.
"The date!" Indi exclaimed, "Are you nervous?" Indi didn't direct the question to anyone but it was pretty clear it was meant for Raven.
"What if i embarrass myself?" Raven fretted.
"You can always glamour Daniel to not remember it." Alex suggested. "Or not? after all, those dimples should easily comfort you." Raven simply rolled her eyes.
"Well you better get comfortable girl, 'cause the masquerade dance is this Thursday" Indi nudged.
"I totally forgot about the dance." I face-palmed, much to Indi's dismay. With the whole turning into vampires, finding the killer vampire, and everything in between, the dance fell out of my brain.
"Well, don't sweat it, we're shopping for dresses this week." Indi declared.
"But for tonight, we are shopping for some rest." I pledged and smiled sweetly.
Indi rolled her eyes. "But first, we need our vitamins." Indi took out four blood bags out of her sleeping bag and handed one to each of us.
"Ugh I've been dying for one of these." Alex said. "This stuff is more addicting than Monster energy drinks."
I modestly tried to open a hole in the blood bag until Indi stopped me.
"Come on guys, we're alone. We don't have to be so elegant."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Just bite into it." Indi made a chomping gesture with her face. "I know it sounds crazy but, just pretend it's someone's neck, whoever you want it to be."
"I don't wanna dirty my floor, Indi." I mentioned. As soon as I said that, Indi pulled out her black towel.
"Bon appétit." Indi winked. Raven, Alex and I shrugged and moved closer to the towel, grabbing our blood bags.
"Bottoms up." I said, and the four of us sunk our fangs into the blood bags, like animals. I could've sworn I heard Indi growl.
After sucking the blood bags dry, the girls and I got ready for bed.
"Alright Ray, try not to wake us up with your sleep farting." Alex said. Raven gasped and slapped Alex's shoulder. Indi and I giggled.
The next morning, I picked up my phone and noticed I got a missed call from Sahara. I groaned and called her back.
            "Hello?"
"Hey Sahara, sorry, I just woke up."
            "Anything yet?"
"The girls and I were gonna look at my dad's police files, since the police usually covers things up, we wanted to see what really happened that night my dad died."
"Well, my parents went out of town for the weekend, so i'm home by myself and honestly i'm very scared." I heard Sahara whimpering, almost bursting into tears.
"Sahara relax okay? The vampire cannot hurt you unless invited in. Just, don't answer the door to anybody unless it's me or the girls. Don't even let the delivery guy inside."
"Can I at least have Chloe with me?"
"Yeah, she wouldn't last an hour as a vampire, she's clean."
"Good, i'll talk to you later then, have fun on your date." Sahara hung up before I could evn say bye.
Alex was the first to wake up. She tied her blonde hair in a bun and yawned.
"What's going on?" She asked, half awake.
"Sahara called, her parents are out of town, I just told her to stay indoors and not let anyone in, besides us, Chloe, or her parents."
"Hopefully that'll buy us some time."
            "Not enough."
Later that afternoon, my mom was cooking spaghetti and meatballs, while the girls and I were in my room, doing our makeup. My mom then came into the room.
"Hi honey, uh, Jason is gonna stay over for a little bit. There's a gas leak in his house, he'll be here in a few." It sounded like my mom was trying hard to say the words.
"Okay." I simply nodded. After my mom left the room, it was as if the closed door hit the play button on the paused girls.
"Jason? as in, the boyfriend Jason?" Indi asked.
"The one and only." I said, frowning.
"I mean, he can't be that bad, if your mom is dating him."
"He's not my father." I countered.
I then got a text from Jeremy, which made me feel a lot better. It read:
'Still seeing you tonight babe? :)'
I smiled really hard and typed 'Yes xoxo uwu.'
Indi looked at me like she already knew what happened.
An hour later, Jason arrived. My mom already set up the dinner table. Jason knocked the door and my mom opened. The girls and I were already downstairs.
            "Hello." He simply said.
"You're just in time, come on in." My mom said.
"Hello there, Lucy." The other girls followed. "And friends!"
"This is India, Alexandra, and Raven." My mom introduced.
            "Nice to meet you girls."
"Lucy, would you mind taking Jason's bag to the guest room please?" My mom asked. I nodded and walked over to the door to pick up Jason's bag. Once I walked into the guest room, Jason's enormous bag accidentally slipped off my small fingers and dropped to the floor, making a 'thump' noise.
I noticed that his bag was zipped open. Out of my own curiosity, I peeked inside. What I saw made my stomach tighten. I found what looked like...stakes? I then saw a wooden crucifix, along with a few crucifix necklaces and a bottle of water that had no label, which I can only assume was holy water. I noticed a small spray with yellow liquid, that almost looked like pee. I smelled the top and the scent was so strong and disgusting, I gagged. It smelled like garlic. Was it?
I then remembered last night, when Alex named certain things vampires are weakened by. All this is contained in Jason's bag, which could only mean one thing...
Jason then appeared outside the open door in the guest room and knocked on the door. I contained my scream in my hand when I saw it was him.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Is everything alright?" he asked.
"Yeah, sorry, I tripped." I said, "I'm fine."
"Alright, well, see you downstairs." He shut the door and went downstairs.
I zipped up Jason's bag and went downstairs. The girls, my mom, and Jason were talking and laughing, but I kept poking at my mom's famous meatballs with my fork. I was still thinking about what I saw in Jason's bag. A million questions kept running through my head. Does Jason know i'm a vampire? Does he know the girls are? Is that why Jason's dating my mom? Or is he also searching for the vampire who killed my dad?
"Lucy!" Alex called. I snapped out of my trance and looked at her.
            "What?"
            "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, sorry." i shoved a meatball in my mouth.
After we ate, the girls and I left my house and went to the mall. All that was on my mind was the stuff in Jason's bag. I couldn't keep it to myself any longer.
"Guys, I have something to tell you"
"What is it Lucy?" Raven asked.
            "I think Jason is dangerous."
"Come on Lucy, he seems like a nice guy." Indi insisted.
"No I mean, he's actually dangerous. I looked into his bag, I saw stakes, holy water, crucifixes, the whole package. I think he's a...vampire hunter."
The girls were silent. Indi's face briefly went from a 'you're joking' scoff to a serious look.
"Do you think he knows about...us?" Raven asked, worryingly.
            "That's what i'm afraid of." I said.
"Hold on, maybe he's on our side. He could also be hunting the same vampire we're looking for." Alex explained, "He just so happens to be dating your mom."
"Alex has a point." Indi admitted, "Maybe he is hunting the  vampire we've all been looking for, we just have to be more careful so he doesn't suspect us."
"What makes you think he doesn't already know?" I asked, "You really think anyone buys that gas-leak story? Why is it a coincidence that he comes into my mom's life right after we turned into vampires? He's hunting us."
"Okay, Lucy, you need to relax." Indi said, holding my arms. "Let's just lay low, even if he suspects us, let's prove him wrong."
             I simply nodded.
"Look Luce, if you don't feel safe at home, you can stay over at my place after the date." Raven offered.
             "Thanks Ray." I accepted.
Later that day, Raven and I went back to my house, getting ready for the double date. I found myself smiling at the idea of holding Jeremy's hand, laying my head on his shoulder, and pretty much acting like a somewhat normal teenage couple. Every once in a while however, my mind kept flashing back to the image of Jason's hunting hear.
I looked out the window to see Daniel outside in his silver Honda Civic. Jeremy was in the backseat. I received a text from Jeremy saying they were outside.
              "Ray, they're outside."
"Wait really? I'm nervous." Raven cringed.
              "Just follow my lead."
As raven and I were heading downstairs, I was internally hoping I wouldn't encounter Jason. Now it wasn't so much that I didn't him here because he wasn't my dad, but because it was for my safety, and my friends'. As we were walking towards the door, I noticed my mom and Jason in the living room.
              "We're leaving mom." I said.
"Want me to drive you?" Jason offered.
"That's okay, raven's boyfriend has a car, he's right outside, thanks though." I said. Jason simply nodded.
"Have fun sweetie." My mom said.
Raven and I walked out the door and Raven got in the front seat, next to Daniel. Her heart pounded like a sledgehammer. I sat in the back seat, next to Jeremy. He kissed me.
"You look extremely beautiful today." He said. I couldn't help it, I smiled really hard and didn't even try to cover it.
"You're looking every bit as handsome yourself." I said. I can tell Raven envied my confidence. Daniel drove all the way to the bowling center. The sound of his car was soothing.
                      SAHARA'S HOUSE
Sahara was home watching TV, waiting for Chloe. She was anxious, feeling like the vampire could show up any minute. but she had to remember my words: "The vampire cannot hurt you unless invited in".
She then heard a knock on the door. She carefully tiptoed to the door, trying not to make a sound. Checking through the peephole, she was relieved to find it was Chloe. She opened the door and Chloe rushed inside.
"I come bearing gifts." Chloe said, holding bags of chinese food.
Sahara and Chloe ate while watching TV.
"So why'd you sound so tense on the phone?" Chloe asked.
           "I wasn't tense."
"Girl, yes you were. come on, spill." Chloe set down her container of chow mein.
"Well...you know how I got attacked by an animal right? And the other animal attacks?"
"Yeah, I mean, it's become more common lately."
"Well, since my parents are out of town, I kinda had this bad feeling, i'm kind of afraid."
            "What kind of bad feeling?"
"Like it'll come after me again."
Chloe hugged Sahara, stroking her red hair.
"You'll be fine, I promise." Chloe abruptly shot up. "Come on, let's go for a walk, the moon is really bright tonight."
             "I literally just said-"
"Come on, it's not like you live in the woods." Chloe tugged Sahara's hand.
             "I kinda wanna stay home."
              Chloe rolled her eyes. "Fine"
                                       THE BOWLING CENTER
Jeremy got a strike, on his first try. I had to say, I was impressed. It was my turn to go. I went, but only hit one bowling pin. I was disappointed, but laughed it off.
"Haven't done this in awhile." I admitted.
On my second try, Jeremy decided to help. He aligned his body with mine. Pressing his chest against my back, his arms aligned with mine. I felt the lean muscle beneath his v-neck on my back. I hadn't seen him shirtless, but I can already picture it.
"Alright, just focus on the target, not on anything else. Pretend it's your hand trying to touch my abs." He teased. I smiled embarrassingly and did just that. His arm moved along with mine, pulling my arm back, then swinging forward, aiming at the pins. The ball rolled straight towards the pins and knocked all of them down.
"I did it!" I exclaimed. Jeremy kissed me on the cheek.
"You're adorable." He said, hugging me from behind.
Next was Raven's turn. She did really good.
"Yes!" She exclaimed. she went over to Daniel and high five'd him.
"You're great at this." He said.
"You're not so bad yourself." Raven said in a challenging tone. Raven seemed more comfortable around Daniel. I couldn't help but smile.
After five rounds of bowling, the four of us went to the movies to see 'Spider-Man 3'. Raven and I weren't really into superheroes but Jeremy and Daniel were, and as long as we were with them, we didn't care. I found myself hooked to the movie and held Jeremy's hand the whole time.
After the movie finished, the four of us got back inside Daniel's car.
"Maybe mini-golf next time?" Daniel asked us.
              Raven's eyes widened. "Next time?"
"You were great tonight. For you, anytime."
It felt like Daniel was driving for an hour, but I laid my head on Jeremy's shoulder. I got a message from Freddy, it felt like my phone brightness lit up the whole car. I decided not to open the message, I didn't feel like dealing with the supernatural tonight. Jeremy admired my blackberry phone.
I closed my eyes when suddenly I heard loud car horns followed by screeching and an abrupt and sudden impact that almost made me fly out the car. We were hit by another car. I moaned in pain, but because of my vampire body, I healed fast.
"Raven are you okay?" I asked.
            "Yeah." She replied, disoriented.
I checked on Jeremy, who's head was against the cracked window. I shook him awake. He grunted as he held his arm.
"I think I broke my arm." He said, "Daniel?"
"Oh my god, Daniel!" Raven panicked. Daniel was bloody and he was unconscious. The impact hit him the hardest. His window was completely shattered. I saw that Raven was trying her hardest to resist the urge from the blood. She looked away, trying to ignore the smell of the blood.
"Just hold still, i'm gonna call an ambulance." I said, opening the door.
"Wait, are you okay?" Jeremy asked.
"Yes, don't worry." I replied, faking a limp.
I went around the car, to where the impact happened. The black car that hit us was completely empty. However, there was a pink post-it on the window, which read: 'let him die or heal him, your choice'.
Shocked at the realization that the vampire caused this, I almost panicked. I immediately called the ambulance, but I kept staring at the post-it.
"No, no no no." I said to myself aloud. Jeremy was looking down in pain, holding his arm. Other than his arm being broken, he was completely fine. The vampire hadn't intended to kill him. Daniel was his target, but why?
I walked up to Daniel's car and checked his pulse. He was still alive, which was a relief.
"I called the ambulance, they should be here any second." I said.
Once the ambulance arrived, they gave us pupil dilation checks, then they put a cast on Jeremy's arm and relocated Daniel's left arm and leg back in it's place. They took us back to the hospital.
The doctors saw that Raven and I were completely fine, so they made us wait in the waiting area for our parents. Jeremy followed us there.
"They're keeping him overnight, he has a bad concussion, but they said he might need crutches for a month." He informed us.
              "That's good news, I guess." I said.
"How did shit just happen like this out of nowhere?" Jeremy seemed to ask himself. I shrugged. "I'm gonna use the bathroom."
Now that raven and I were alone, I told her what actually happened.
I showed her the post-it as proof. "The vampire did this. He gave me the choice to either heal Daniel or let him die." Raven opened her mouth in shock.
"I don't know Lucy, this seemed a little too easy, it's like he knew you would heal him." raven said.
                "But I didn't." I said.
Later that night, Daniel laid on the hospital bed, but next to the bed, a dark figure stood. A man in a black trench coat. He bent over, grabbing Daniel by the neck and sinking his fangs into it. Daniel struggled, but soon enough, the vampire had drained every ounce of blood from his body. Then, just like he did with me and the girls, he replaced the missing blood with his own. It was only a matter of time before he woke up again.
