THE SAME NIGHT, 1 HOUR AGO
a couple was driving through the dark and foggy woods. they were trying to find a shortcut like every college student does. finding a shortcut. they drove in a white 1996 pontiac, listening to 'bad moon rising' on the radio.
"okay lucas, we're definitely lost" a girl said. it was a blonde girl and she was wearing a white dress.
"relax danielle" the dark haired boy said. "i know where i'm going"
"well can you at least turn off this creepy music?" danielle asked.
"it's a classic, babe" lucas said, kissing danielle.
"WATCH OUT!!" danielle screamed. the car hit a thin hooded person. the hooded person flew over the car and laid dead on the road.
"oh my god!" danielle said, beginning to panic. "we just hit someone"
out of words, lucas got out of the car to check on the person.
"i can't find a pulse" he said. suddenly, the hooded person grabbed him by the neck, spun him around to the floor, then bit his neck with its fangs.
danielle decided to get out the car to check on lucas and the body. but there was nothing there.
"lucas?" she called out. behind her, she heard a thump voice. she turned around but nothing was there. she looked up to see lucas's mangled body handing from tree branches. she screamed to the top of her lungs and started running. that's when the vampire, lurking on a tree branch, grabbed danielle, then bit her and killed her.
NOW
"what are we going to do the body?" i asked.
"we have to destroy it" freddy said, "or she'll come back as a vengeful spirit"
"a ghost?" indi asked.
"a ghost" freddy justified.
"okay, this is getting a little insane" raven said, backing away.
"raven, where are you going?" alex asked.
"we need to get out of here" raven said, she then bumped into a tree from behind. she then looked up and saw lucas's mangled body, then screamed. alex, indi, and i sped over at the same time.
"what is it?" i asked. raven pointed up and the three of us looked up and gasped when we saw the mangled body.
"freddy!" alex called.
"what is it?" freddy asked, walking over to us. he saw the body too.
"what do we do?" raven asked.
"like i said, we need to salt and burn their bodies so they won't come back as ghosts" freddy said.
"these people have families, freddy" i said.
"yeah, and what are you gonna tell them?" freddy asked. "animal attack?, don't you think people will raise their eyebrows about this?"
"and don't you think people will raise their eyebrows when someone just disappears without a trace?" i responded. raven then suddenly screamed.
"what's wrong?" i asked. raven pointed to the other side of the woods. i looked over and saw....danielle and lucas standing there. but they both look a little off. they look ghost-like. they were ghosts. then they sort of combusted and disappeared. i looked down to see freddy next to the melted down bodies.
"it had to be done" freddy said.
with nothing else to say or do, we created a fake car accident and left the scene. once i arrived home, i checked my phone and saw i had a text from jeremy.
jeremy: 'i had fun tonight'
               me: so did i.
jeremy: i just remembered, i was wondering if you were gonna go to that saturday night barbecue the school is doing tomorrow.
me: yeah, i'll totally go, will you?
jeremy: great! i'll see you then.
             me: yeah, totally.
jeremy: are you okay? you seem a little down.
me: oh no, i was just watching a ghost movie, that's all.
jeremy: oh that's cool. anyways, i'm gonna go to bed. goodnight.
           me: night.
i laid down in my bra and underwear and decided to go to sleep that night, but i had so many questions. who killed that couple? who caused my dad to crash? who turned the girls and i into vampires? why am i a vampire?
the next morning, i woke up, slowly brushed my teeth, then sat by my makeup table. i say there for awhile, staring at my crimson red eyes in my mirror. the more i looked at them, the prettier i found them. i thought about how i would tell jeremy that i was a vampire.
"jeremy....i-i'm a vampire" i said to myself, looking down and putting my hair behind my ear. "god that sounds so stupid out loud" i rolled my eyes then placed my mirror face down. i threw on my night gown and went downstairs for breakfast.
"morning sweetie" my mom said, kissing me on the forehead. "hm, you're pretty cold dear" i shrugged it off and changed the subject.
"what's for breakfast mom?" i asked.
"i made you a ham and cheese omelette, bacon, hash browns, and pan de guayaba" my mom said. my mouth started watering when she said that. my parents used to always pick on me for eating such big meals but never gaining an ounce of fat.
       "thanks mom" i said.
after breakfast, i met with the girls at the mall to shop for jewelry.
"aside from mysterious vampire deaths, lucy, how was your date with jeremy?" indi asked.
"it was not a date" i said, rolling my eyes.
"oh come on" alex said, "at least give us the details"
"we went for fro-yo, then went to the park" i said, "then he walked me home"
indi then noticed i was holding another detail back, considering my shy expression.
"and?" she asked.
"he kissed me" i barely managed to squeeze out. the girls all gasped in unison.
"he kissed you?!" raven said excitedly.
"did you kiss him back?" alex asked.
"yes i did" i said.
"how was it? did you kiss him back? did you like it?" the girls asked all at once.
"it was sweet" i said, "i did like it"
the girls nearly squealed before they got their act together. i rolled my eyes and the four of us walked into hot topic. i bought myself a couple necklaces, two chokers, and a misfits t-shirt.
"hey girls, do you think this shirt will look good with these socks?" indi asked, holding up a gorgoroth t-shirt and knee-high skull socks.
"yeah it looks cute" raven said.
       "i agree" alex said.
indi is the group leader. she can hold up two pieces of clothing that she knows will definitely match, but will still ask for opinions. i have to thank her though, she did help alex, raven, and i with our style, and helped us better attract guys.
"yeah it looks good" i said, scratching my head.
"aww you daydreamed" indi said, "thinking about that date last night huh?" she teased. i simply just rolled my eyes.
after leaving hot topic, the girls and i decided to go to the food court. we decided to share an odd combination: two meatball footlongs, split between the four of us, then each of us ate our own individual wendy's chicken nuggets, then we also got panda express.
"okay guys, when are we gonna talk about it?" indi asked.
        "talk about what?" raven asked.
"last night obviously" indi clarifies. "you think the vampire who killed that couple could've been the same vampire who turned us?" she asked.
"my money's on yes" i said.
"i don't know" alex said, "something feels different about this one"
"what do you mean?" i asked.
"i mean, do you really think the vampire who turned us would've left a mess of bodies behind?" alex asked.
"we don't know a thing about him" indi said.
"but why kill them, but turn us?" alex asked, "why not turn them as well?"
"i don't know" i said, "freddy said he was gonna figure it out"
"well i say, why don't we have fun with this until then?" alex asks.
"what? running around and sinking our fangs into innocent people?" raven said.
"no, we could test our abilities" alex said, "being a vampire doesn't mean sucking people dry" alex looked at me when she said that. sometimes i wish she didn't have such a dirty mind.
later that night, the four of us got ready to go to the saturday night barbecue. think of our barbecues as a bunch of teenagers hanging out next to the woods throwing a party, playing loud music, and tossing ping pong balls into cut-open coca cola cans.
once we got there, we were nearly plowed down by the football jocks. jeremy then caught my eye with his bright orange sweater. you could hardly miss him.
"you made it!" he said to me.
"i did" i said nervously.
"hey girls" he said to raven, alex, and indi.
        "hey jeremy" they said smiling.
"hey guys! you came!" freddy said excitedly, while holding a sausage on a stick.
"freddy, i see you already started eating" i said.
"oh yeah, these sausages are amazing, try em" he said, nearly shoving the sausage into my face.
"yeah, freddy why don't we go get some?" indi said, winking at me. she took the girls and freddy away from jeremy and i, so it was just the two of us. jeremy handed me a can of coke, and we sat on the concrete stairs next to the parking lot.
"i didn't think you'd show" jeremy said.
"why wouldn't i come to fun saturday night barbecues?" i teased.
"well you seem to be the quiet type" jeremy said, "no offense"
"well, ever since my dad died, i feel like my life is sort of in the pause button, while everyone else is fast forward" i said, "i don't blame them though, people have lives, they move forward, they keep running"
"hey that doesn't mean your feelings are pointless" jeremy said, "you're allowed to feel"
          "thanks jeremy" i said, smiling.
"i'm here for you whenever you need me" jeremy said.
i kept eye contact with jeremy. looking into his perfect blue eyes. it was like looking at two oceans at once. it suited his pale face and dark hair. i leaned forward and kissed him. my thoughts were racing as i pressed my lips onto his soft ones.
"thank you" i said to him. jeremy was already blushing. "we should meet up with freddy and the girls"
"yeah of course" jeremy said almost too fast.
"and hey" i said, "maybe we should give this a shot"
"i'd love to" jeremy said, smiling really hard.
the both of us got up and met with the girls and freddy next to the grill. freddy handed each of us hot dogs. jeremy and i kept looking at each other. he put his arm around me.
"you guys are together?" indi asked.
"yep, we just made it official" i said. the girls then started clapping. except for freddy, who seemed to not be paying attention.
after the barbecue, the girls and i walked home, taking a shortcut down the woods. but we heard a scream in the middle of the woods which nearly scared us half to death.
"over here!" i said, smelling the scent of blood. the four of us found a girl with red hair laying on the ground, blood spewing from her neck. she was still alive. she seemed to be a teenager. i got closer and realized it was sahara.
"guys quick" raven said, attempting to carry the body. "we need to get her to the hospital"
i took off my cardigan and pressed it against sahara's wound, applying pressure.
"sahara, stay with me" i said, "we're almost there"
we took her to the hospital and waited for an hour before we were tired of waiting for the doctors to let us see her.
"these doctors are inhumanly slow" alex said.
"hang on guys, i got this" i said, walking up to dr. nelson. "excuse me, when can we see our friend?" i asked.
"you have to wait honey" nelson said. i looked into her eyes.
"let us see her now" i said.
"right this way" nelson said, leading the four of us to sahara. sahara was barely awake.
"she's stable, but we'll have to keep her overnight in case of infection" the doctor said.
"thank you" i said, "let us be" nelson left and it was just us in the room. i sat in the chair next to sahara's hospital bed.
"hey" i said, "do you know what attacked you earlier?" i asked. sahara turned her head to me and tried to mutter the words out.
"vampire" she whispered, before blacking out again.
