it was the next day. kaitlynn decided to enroll in woodstake high, so it was her first day at school...again, and it was up to us to show her around.
kaitlynn sniffed. "it's good to be back here but, it smells different."
"that's 2007 for you." i said. i then handed her a sheet of paper. "here's your schedule. you have first period english with me, sahara, and natalie."
"it feels kind of weird being a sophomore again. i've downgraded from being a senior."
i scoffed. "you're the one who decided to come back."
"who's that blonde girl?" kaitlynn asked, referring to chloe.
"that over there, is chloe brennan. she's a cheerleader for the varsity woodstake wolves football team."
                "something seems off about her."
                "yeah, no kidding."
then in the corner of my eye, i saw jeremy walking towards me. he spun me around and gave me a passionate kiss. it was the best feeling i ever felt.
                "i missed you." he said.
"you missed me too." i stuttered. "wait.."
jeremy giggled. "adorable." he turned to kaitlynn, who smiled awkwardly. "who's this?"
"kaitlynn gaines, she's a new student." i introduced.
jeremy waved and kaitlynn waved back.
he kissed me again. "well, anyway, i gotta go to class. see you later." jeremy then walked away.
                "your boyfriend?" kaitlynn asked.
                  i nodded happily.
"reminds me of when your parents fell in love."
"what were they like back then?"
"your dad was captain of the varsity woodstake wolves football team. your mom? well, she was quiet, very closed off. she always observed your dad from afar, crushing on him."
"so how did they fall in love?"
"it just happened. at first, your dad didn't really pay attention to your mom, but then they started talking more and more, and your mom felt more confident. then he just fell in love with her. they were complete opposites. a mismatched couple, everyone said. but they didn't care, they had each other."
hearing that made me smile. i never knew exactly how my parents met, and hearing it coming from kaitlynn, their old friend made me see a whole new perspective of their love. it felt like i still had a piece of my dad with me, through kaitlynn. but i also felt sad that i would never see him again. i even imagined introducing kaitlynn to my mom, but that would be hard to explain.
i walked kaitlynn to class, and also felt chloe's eyes burning a hole into me as i walked by.
"sahara, i really need to show you this." chloe said, almost hitting her in the face with the camera.
sahara brushed the camera away. "chloe, enough with your endless torment of lucy, i don't wanna be apart of it."
"no seriously, look." chloe showed sahara the picture of the day she and her friends threw fake blood on me at the park. the same picture where my image didn't appear because chloe owned a silver-lens camera.
"a big red splash of fake blood on the floor, shocker."
"exactly! when i took the picture, lucy was there. and here, she's not."
sahara eyes widened slightly. she didn't know what to say. vampire's images don't reflect on silver, she thought to herself. "um, you probably took the picture after she left."
"no, i swear she was standing right there. i'm not crazy."
"i don't know chloe, technical difficulties."
"or there's something actually wrong with that girl. i believe this is concrete proof."
sahara walked away. "just let it go, chloe."

after class, i helped walk kaitlynn to her next class until chloe intercepted. she bumped into me and held kaitlynn's hand modestly.
"hello new student, i'm chloe brennan, and it is my job to show you around the school!" chloe put on her tourist voice again.
"oh um, thanks but i'll find my way." kaitlynn replied.
"oh, i insist." chloe tugged her arm and took kaitlynn with her. i rolled my eyes and walked towards my locker and met with the girls.
"i see chloe's already into kaitlynn." indi said.
i sighed. "tell me about it."
i then noticed chloe taking a picture with kaitlynn. seeing that reminded me of my first day of freshman year. i didn't know anyone. the only person who came from middle school to high school with me was indi. we met alex and raven along the way, but chloe was one of the first people to befriend me.
