Promises are weapons

Only wield them when you need,

For just a touch of one left broken,

Is all it takes to make you bleed.......

......

"Dad.....you...you can't...you can't. You promised me." A 16 year old Liza kept looking at the man with sadness. He was older than her. She can tell. But right now.. at this moment he looked so much like that man. That man whose eyes she can't forget. Those blood soaked eyes. And she remembered why she was here in the first place. She knew why she was sitting next to this unknown man even when all she wanted to do was close her eyes and forget. Forget everything that has happened until now.

Her head was paining even more. But she has a promise to keep.

"Let's go.....pl..please, I am begging you. Ju....Just hold my hand. Pl..Please."

That blood filled hand grasped hers weakly. He wanted to talk. But all that came out of his mouth was more blood.

"Come on we have to go. This car is about to burst into flames." Another voice screamed but she didn't move. Not one bit.

That hand grabbed hers again, his eyes were begging her for something. To be saved? No..something else. He was asking for something else.

She grasped his back with as much power she can master.

"M.....My....son.."

"What?"

"My....son....alone....he.....alone...."

Tears filled her eyes. He was still thinking about his son. What has she done? She was about to snatch a father away from his son. What has she done?

"Ple....Please.....He.....alone....he.."

She didn't know what he was asking for but even then she grabbed his hand tightly as if to reassure him.

"I'll go to your son. I'll go...." She wiped her eyes away. " He won't be alone. I promise. He won't be alone."

A little smiled tug at the old man's lips as he nods slowly at her before letting go of her hand. He seems at rest now. And that's when a pair of hands drags her away from that car. Before everything goes black she saw...large orange flames...brightening everything but breaking her heart piece by piece.

What have I Done?

........ .......... ...........

"I didn't keep the promise, Zack. The one I made to your father. You were alone all those years, hurting, breaking and I didn't knew....I...couldn't keep that promise."

I brush my hand over his hair keeping it away from his eyes. Then I grasped his hand again. Cold. Why is it so cold? It used to be so warm before. It used to felt so secure. But now..It's cold. Doesn't matter how many times I hold it, the coldness doesn't go away.

I look at his face again. Five days have passed but that man, he never opened his eyes. Right now I would do anything just to see those green emeralds again. Anything.

The doctors said that if he didn't wake up then little by little his body would stop functioning. They said that his heart was already not beating as it should be. That....that slowly it was stopping. Medicines weren't working on him. He wasn't even responding to the treatment.
