Enjoy!

I gently pat Windham's forehead and he snorts softly, nuzzling my hand. "Hey, boy, it's been a while hasn't it?" I mutter to him and smile. Happy memories surface in my mind, of riding carefree and wild along the plains of Gondor, my sister Annika riding on my left side and my best friend Faramir on my right. The wind in my hair and open fields all around us as we practically flew over the short grasses and the edges of cliffs. "Kaelyn!" calls an enthusiastic, familiar voice from behind me, startling me out of my thoughts, and I turn around with a smile. Faramir sweeps me into a hug before I can even say hello and I laugh with joy at seeing him again after all this time. Annika follows, also smiling, but I can see her grin flicker as Faramir hugs me. Meriadoc trails after Annika, chuckling at our reunion, but I can see him glance away as I step away from Faramir to hug my sister.

"It's been much too long, sister," mumbles Annika and I reply, "Yes it has. I've missed you so much." She nods and we hug again, so grateful to be reunited, but then Merry speaks up. "You know these two?" He sounds surprised and, to my shock, a little jealous. "Yes, Merry, this is my sister Annika, and Faramir was my best friend as children." He accepts my reply and Faramir winks at me, suggesting, "Why don't we go for a ride? For old times' sake." I nod eagerly and open the gate to Windham's pen. He whinnies as I enter and trots closer, nudging against me in a sort of hug. Faramir goes to Igrand's pen and Annika to Pheonix's, the same horses we used to ride when we were young. Merry just stands there in the middle of the stable, looking left out, so I hop out of Windham's stall and lead him to the end of the large building where the ponies are kept.

"This is Carrington," I introduce him to the sleek brown pony as we enter the stall. He whinnes and shies away from Merry, who frowns. "I won't be able to keep up!" he protests and I reply with a smile, "Carrington is the fastest we have out of every horse, not just the ponies." Merry grins and apologizes quickly, but I brush it off with a smile and boost him on. "The others should be outside, I'll meet you there," I say and he nods, moving Carrington towards the stable doors. He glances back once at me and I smile, but again to my surprise, his cheeks flush and he turns away. What strange beings hobbits are... I muse silently as I mount Windham and trot him out of the stable to meet the others. Merry's hair is tousled by the breeze as he and Faramir laugh at something Annika said and I can't help but notice how handsome he looks with the sun framing his face just that way.
