Eliza is a peculiar example of an elf. At least, she is to the people of the kingdom of Mirkwood.

They are elves, like her, but she has been imprisoned along with her dwarven friends in the dungeons, on the orders of the king Thranduil, due to trespassing on his land. Eliza has caught his eye, due to her abnormal friendship with dwarfkind and her oddly sunny disposition. For someone who has been through so many battles and seen so much death and bloodshed, she's oddly optimistic and kind to all. His son, Legolas, has noticed this as well, stunned by her politeness toward him and his fellow elves when he captured her and her companions.

The story goes that Eliza has been traveling with the Company for many months now, ever since Gandalf requested her support in their quest to reclaim Erebor, the dwarves' lost kingdom. The dwarves mistrusted her at first (though Bilbo Baggins, their hired burglar, warmed up to her right away), but after a short time - in which she saved their lives many times -  they accepted her as one of their own. Then, traveling through Mirkwood, they became horribly lost and were attacked by giant spiders. A troupe of guards from the kingdom saved them and then took them prisoner due to their trespassing. And so here they are, locked up in individual cells

"Let me out, ya son of a maggot!" cries one of Eliza's angry dwarf friends from a nearby cell. She blows a strand of hair away from her face as the clamor from around her grows. The elven guards are cool as cucumbers, ignoring their prisoners' taunts and shouts. "That pretty face of yours won't be safe from my axe for long!" bellows another. Eliza gives a sigh and raises her voice above all the rest of the voices around her. "QUIET!" The clamor stops almost immediately and Eliza sighs. "There'll be no hope of getting out of these cells anytime soon if you disparage our captors like this," she says sternly, her arms crossed. Across the dungeon space from her, Thorin Oakenshield is glaring at her, but she holds his gaze coolly, knowing she's right. If he relents to her, then the rest of the Company will too.

After a tense moment, Thorin steps back from the bars of his cell and grumbles softly to himself as the guards leave the prisoners be. The dwarves talk in low voices as Eliza ponders the best strategic plan to escape with all fourteen of her companions. It seems nearly impossible from their current position- but then, a single elf approaches her cell and unlockes it. He tilts his head at her and smiles calmly. "Come with me," he instructs, but Eliza doesn't yet move. She hesitates because she recognizes the elf as one of the ones who saved - and then captured - her and her companions earlier. He is clearly someone of high status, due to his mannerisms, clothing, and inscriptions on his weapons, those of which she noticed earlier.

Taking a guess, she bows to him and replies, "Surely your highness has better things to do than speak with a lowly trespasser?" Her voice is calm and steady, and she watches him with a questioning gaze. The ellon seems surprised she knows who he is and Eliza hides a smile as he nods politely at her, replying, "When it comes to an elleth who knows who I am without my telling her and who befriends dwarves, I am willing to leave many other duties to later." Eliza considers this, then steps out of the cell. The lordly ellon beckons for her to follow, and she does, shooting a glance at Thorin that she hopes will tell him she's thinking up a plan.

Eliza follows the ellon up many precarious paths and stairways, ultimately leading her to the throne room. There on a throne made of woven branches and shimmering silver sits an elf wearing a tall, spiraling crown and a serious expression. Eliza, assuming this is the king of the realm, bows as expected and greets him, "Your Majesty, I apologize for any intrusion myself and my friends might have made in your realm. We are only passing through and mean no harm to you, your people, or your land." The king rises, pushing aside his robe gracefully as he descends the stairs to the platform where Eliza and the noble ellon who led her here stand.
