~ L I L A ~

Looking in the mirror one final time before going to school, I run my hand over my neck. My fingers graze the necklace. The pink light had ended up being the stone on my necklace. It was to pretty to leave so I had attached it to a chain, thus making the necklace that I'm wearing. Although I was confused on why it was a pink light when the stone was purple but I didn't question things.  I felt connected to it though which was weird but I shrug the felling off. Hearing the familiar honk of my friends car, I grab my backpack and leave my my room. I lightly jog down the stairs, grabbing my jacket from the hangers near the door. After exiting the house, I make sure to lock the house then get in Ryan's car. "You look cute," he compliments, eyes glancing at me for a split second. "Thank you," I beam fixing my jacket.

"I am not ready to deal with all the switches," I groan remembering that students tended to switch classes after the first day of school, the only day they were aloud to make changes

"I am not ready to deal with all the switches," I groan remembering that students tended to switch classes after the first day of school, the only day they were aloud to make changes. "It won't be that bad," Ryan's poor attempt to cheer me up causes me to send him a blank stare. "Anyways, ready for Friday?" I ask picking at my nails. "About that.. I have to help Bill at the shop," Ryan answers turning into the school parking lot. A frown etches onto my face. "How's he doing?" I question, my heart aching for the older man. Bill was Ryan's uncle, he owned an automobile repair shop in town. He tended to take care of Ryan since his mother was in and out of said boy's life. Recently, Bill's fiance Amy had died overseas. I recall Ryan calling me on the day of the funeral. Bill was so devastated. "He's fine I guess. He busies himself to hide the pain," Ryan sighs parking his car.

It wasn't hard to tell that the events of four months ago was still taking its toll on poor Bill. I slam the car door closed, sending Ryan an innocent look as I do so. I know he hated when I slammed his car doors. "Tell him I said Hi when you visit him," I demand and Ryan nods as we walk into the school. "Hello my two favorite Bi-Flies," the voice of our red haired friend Rachel comes from behind us. We turn to see Rachel who had a large smile etched on her face. "Why are you so happy?" Ryan questions, a skeptical look on his face. "And Bi-flies, really?" My nose scrunches up at the cringey nickname. "It's the first one that came to my mind," Rachel shrugs. "And to answer your question Ry, my dad has a date," Rachel's smile widens.

Smiles spread onto mine and Ryan's face, it's about time her father got out there and explored a new relationship. "That's great news," Ryan nods as all three of us sit down at a table. "I know! The dates on friday night which means I'm babysitting Bentley," Rachel tells us making my smile fall. "No, no, Ryan already cancelled on Friday, you can't," I shake my head. Rachel sends me an apologetic smile. "Sorry Lila," she apologizes making me sigh. "I swear if Aubrey cancels," I threaten. As soon as those words leave my mouth, I spot her walking over to us. As soon as she reaches us, I don't allow her to sit down without throwing the question at her. "Your still on for friday right?" my eyes looking at her in a pleading way. She winces biting her lip as if she just remembered. "Aubrey no," I whine knowing that she forgot.

"I'm sorry, I totally forgot. My dads making us go camping," Aubrey explains. I don't have time to complain as the bell rings indicating that it was time to head to class. A sad sigh escapes me. So much for our annual sleepover...
