"Mom? Dad? Ventura? Nik says shocked
I turn and smile at them.
Why exactly is he surprised? Depending on on my work load, Niks parents and his sister came for dinner at least twice a week then I had Sunday dinner with them.
They became the family I didn't have after Nik went off to school. I was hesitant when they first came to visit me at the farm but they made it a habit. Even during my semesters at school, they always visited and brought me home made lunches.
" Oh Nik, you're here?" His mum says
"How are you Nik?" She continues
"I'm fine mum" he says still frowning
His parents give me hugs and I ask them to seat. His sister jumps on me and almost throws me down,
"Ventura! You're so heavy you'll break me" I say laughingly
"Maxy! I missed you Doctor, oh my God we have so much college shopping to do for me, let's go this weekend! You're taking me to college right?" She rumbles off
"Ventura! Slow down!" Nikolas senior says
She laughs and puts her arms around my shoulders. I'll help you set the table. Let's go.
We go to the kitchen and she sets up the table while I dish the food. Nik is sulking in the living room with his parents. I look at Ven and we smile at each other.
"Smile Max!" She says as a flashlight goes off in my face
"What the! Ven!" I say swinging a spoon at her as she runs around taking photos
"Before you kill me, do you how much of a following you have? You should thank me" she says still taking her video
"A following? People follow me around? Curse that Nik!" I say creeped out
"No dummy! I got you and Instagram account ages ago, I've been posting your photos, the fans love you!" She says
"What? Ventura Abigail Starlinksy " I shout
"Please don't say my full name" she pouts
"Why would you huh?" I ask her
"You're gorgeous, successful and you cook great food, best brother in law ever, plus I love you" she counts off
"Gorgeous! I'm a guy Ven... between you and Nik, one of you will kill me before my time!" I sigh
"Check out the page and complain later" she says taking photos of all the food.
That's why she always bugged me for photos! She even came in the mornings to stress me! But I love her. We hang out alot. Movies, shopping, weekend trips....
As Ventura finishes arranging the food and leaves the kitchen, we hear someone clear their throat, which makes me turn around
"Are we eating anytime soon?" He asks
"You invited yourself, uninvite yourself" I say as I turn back to take the dishes to the dinning room.
As soon as I turn back, Nik is still standing there looking at me weird.
"Grab some dishes" I say taking out the first ones
"Do you remember when you ran into me at your grandfather's house ten years ago?" He asks
"Yeah, I say" where was he going with this?
"Do you remember what you did?" He asks
I blush and turn away, how can I forget that day! I kissed him!
"What does it matter? I kissed you so what?" I ask
"I want payback" he says taking the dishes out of hands and putting them aside
"Hey! People want to eat" I protest
"Forget the food, you stole the kiss, I want to steal mine too so we'll be even, what do you think? he whispers" he says coming closer to me as I go backwards. His eyes are shining with intent and it was obvious.
"It was a long time ago " I whisper back
Why am I whispering?
He comes slowly closer to me and I push him back.
"Nik...nooo" I say
He suddenly slams his mouth on mine and pulls me closer to him. I gasp out a breathe when he pulls back to stare at me. I try to twist out of his arms but he pulls me into a scorching kiss and my cheeks heat with color.
"Struggling is futile" he says against my lips
"But it was only one kiss, you're taking liberties" I say twisting out of his arms
Before I can even turn back, he pulls me back and kisses me some more, then I hear an
"Woah!" Ventura says And a flash goes off.
We hastily pull away and turn to her.
"We are waiting for food and you guys are here kissing?" She says
"Ven, it's not what you think, fix it" I glare at Nik because she is looking at me with a doubtful look
"What do want to keep quiet?" Nik asks
"A Hermes bag and one of your credit cards for a day, nothing less" she says
"Done " Nik says taking out his wallet and giving her a platinum card, then going out with a dish
"Hermes! You go girl" I tell her as we high five
"Don't worry, I saw him cornering you, Nik will pay when we use his card till it smokes from overuse" Ventura says
I laugh and take the food to the dining, then we all sit at the table.
Niks mum serves her food and smiles at me
"Max, your food is the best " she says digging in
"We always enjoy your meals Max" Nikolas says
"It's nothing!" I blush stuffing my mouth with chicken
"So Max, how is the extension going? We didn't have time to look it over? Nikolette says
"They will be finished soon and we'll have more space" I reply
"I'll swing by to check on it, you're not exactly construction savvy Max
Everyone bursts out laughing as they dig into the food.
