He was the star on top of her tree,
the cherry on her sundae,
and the moon in her night sky.How could she live without
her finishing puzzle piece,
the icing on her cake,
and the snow to her winter storm? She looked up at a girl
whose eyes blazed pure gold
and whose fingertips brought life to everything she touched. She became her mentor—
the most wise and humble guide
to help release her from the shackles
that he bound her with. She was not completed by him.
She was imprisoned by him. From her, she learned strength,
independence,
and unity. She became her own star, cherry, and moon.
She became her own finishing piece, icing, and snow.
She became her own other half.Sometimes all we need to find our true value
is to look in a mirror.-M.M.
