Save Me

Chapter 6

Perrie

The car ride to the mall wasn't too bad. It takes about an hour to get to the mall from where we live so for most of the ride we just listened to music and the kids just played on their phones.

When we got to the mall we all got out to start our shopping journey. When I opened Niall's door he was asleep, leaning his head on the side of his car seat with a small blanket in his grasp. I've noticed that when he sleeps he always seems to grab onto something so maybe it would be best to find him a comfort toy or something.

While Zayn is getting the boys to calm down I'm trying to decide if it would be a bad idea to just pick him up or if I should wake him first. After some thinking I decided my best bet would be to wake him up just so he doesn't get scared later when he wakes up in my arms.

"Niall. Niall baby, you need to wake up." I say while gently rubbing him arm. After a few seconds his blue eyes open and he lets out a little yawn. When he is finally awake enough he looks up at me and then around the empty car. "Do you want me to carry you? We're at the store now and we're going to get some nice clothes and maybe some toys too." He just looks at me again before rubbing his eyes and nodding his head.

I gently pick him up and wrap the blanket around him because it's pretty chilly out and he doesn't have the warmest clothes on. As we walk into the store I notice that there are a lot of people here. I normally don't like to go shopping when it is crowded like this, but Niall needs almost everything and it would be terrible to make him wait any longer.

At the looks of it,most of the people are shopping for toys and stuff so I think we can start with clothes and move onto toys a little later. I could also let the boys run off to a different section of the store I go to and they can get everything they need as well.. that could save some time!

"Okay guys, listen up. I'm going to take Niall to the kids section for clothes while you two go to the junior section for yourself. Zayn, you can either go ahead and get the necessity's and some snacks or you can tag along with one of us. After I'm finished we can head to the toys." I say as we walk through the large doors and into the crazy that is the mall.

Once we make it to the clothing store I head towards little kids clothing, although I may need to get certain things from the toddler section for right now.

As I'm walking through the isle I see Niall peek some interest on a rack of clothes.

"Do you see something you like Ni?" I ask him. Niall just looks up and me and shakes his head no, but I know that he found something interesting over there. I walk towards the shirts that he was looking at and I see a lion king shirt placed in the front of the rack.

"Do you like this shirt? It's very nice." I say as he looks up once again and just by the twinkle in his eyes I can tell that we found a winner. I think his knew found interest in The Lion King must come from watching the movie before his nap earlier today. It was kind of strange how one movie could capture so much of his attention, but I guess that's what happens when you grow up without ever watching cartoons.

After looking through all the sizes, I notice that he may be too small for them. Hopefully there will be more in the toddler section but just in case I still place the shirt in the cart. After about 45 minutes I have a full basket of clothes, Sox, and other necessities that Niall needs. I even went to the bathroom sections so I could find him a Lion King toothbrush and get some other things for him as well.

The last thing on my list for this store is shoes. I would like to get him a pair of sneakers and a pair of rain boots as well. As I head over to the shoe section I find my other two boys messing around.

"Hey guys, did you find everything you need?" I ask as I make my way over to them. Niall was now in the cart sitting in the front end and he looks like he is enjoying every moment of the ride.

"Yup! We've been ready for about 20 minutes, we're just waiting for you to finish because we're starving." Louis says before he heads over the me and Niall. "Hey bub, are you having fun?" Louis Asks Niall with a goofy smile on his face. He's always been so good with kids no matter what age they are.

Niall looks up from my phone that is currently in his hands to Louis with a small smile and nods. He still seems on edge but I think he's becoming more relaxed as the day goes by. Then again, there wasn't very many people in the clothes today so maybe it's just because he's not crowded and he is able to feel safe.

"Okay, let's find some shoes and then we can make a quick stop at the toys before we head out to eat." I say as I turn down the kids isle for shoes.

"Ooo! Let's get him these, he'll love them!" Harry says while picking up some glow up sneakers.

"Wow, look at these Niall, do you like them?" I ask as he reaches for the shoes. Harry gives him the shoes while I look for a pair in his size. While he is focused on the shoes in his hands I decide to take off one of his shoes to try a small pair on but he starts to wine when I take his shoe. He doesn't cry or scream like I would expect but he seems as if he was afraid that I was going to just take his shoe and make him go without. It doesn't make complete sense to me but then again he did come from an abusive and neglectful home.

"It's okay babe, I'm just trying the shoe on to see if it fits." I say with a smile. He still has tears in his eyes but Louis quickly distracts him which I'm super thankful for.

Once i find a pair that fits I decide to try on some rain boots as well so I don't have to take his shoe off again. After we're all done and ready I head to the counter and pay for everything.

"Which toy do you like better? Do you like the dinosaur or the monkey?" I ask Niall as I stand with him in front of a section of toys. So far he hasn't picked anything which is strange because normally kids are up to getting any toy. I'm still putting toys in the buggy like legos and play dough but he hasn't really looked at anything.

"How about we look over here." Zayn says as he picks Niall up from where he was standing in the Isle and heads over to the other side of the isle. As soon as we get to mid-isle I spot a Simba stuffed animal. I know it's a long shot considering he won't even look at most of the toys but I still feel like it could be the one that can spark an interest.

"Hey! Look at this!" I say as I take the stuffed animal from the shelf. Niall looks over at me before his eyes fall on the Simba toy. As soon as he looks at the toy be immediately begins to smile. Well, I say that's a win! I hand him the stuffed Simba and he smiles.

After about fifteen more minutes were done looking and Louis and Harry keep complaining about starvation so we head for the checkout. Once we get there I notice that Niall is now asleep in Zany's arms while he is holding the stuffed toy in a death grip. The cashiers coos as she see this and instead of making us wake him up she just get the hand-held laser and scanned the tag on the stuffed animal.

Once everything was paid for we headed to the car and i watched as Zayn carefully placed Niall in his car seat and laid the blanket back over his legs.

"Okay, so can we finally go get some food, I'm dying here." Louis says in a super dramatic way.

"Don't worry Louis, your hunger will be fixed in just a few minutes." I laugh.

Now off to get some dinner!
