"I love you forever. I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be."

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss.

That's all I heard for the next two weeks.

All I heard at the visitation. All I heard at the church service. All I heard at the graveyard.

A child's coffin is pitifully small.

Her dress was made of white tulle, her feet fitted into white sandals, a toast to the wedding dress she'd never wear.

Her gravestone was granite with a pink angel carved above her name. Molly Elizabeth Lane. Beloved child and lover of princesses. April 26, 2014 to June 1, 2018.

It made me angry that the hole the gravediggers dug was barely longer than a toy train. It should've been bigger. She should've lived longer.

When it was my turn to throw dirt down on the coffin, it got stuck to my sweaty palms. I wiped my hands on the black dress my mother had laid out on my bed that morning.

We put white roses on her tombstone.

I touched my fingers to the little pink angel and cried.
