Refrigerator doors are magnetic because kids used to die inside them. Before the Refrigerator Safety Act of 1956, the doors could only be opened by pulling the handle from the outside, which resulted in the deaths of many children who found abandoned ones and got trapped inside while playing games like hide-and-seek.

This is why this generation stays on the internet all of the time... we avoid situations like these xD
