She's angry and she's drunk,
So she gives him brutal bruises,
Then she lies down her bunk,
As he peruses.

He looks through his feelings,
Through these dirty, rotten dealings,
Brutal bruises on his body and on his soul.
Purple as rain clouds but dark as coal.

He can't even look in the mirror,
Not at his brutal bruises.

She's a sister and a daughter,
So much promise and light,
But it seems the darkness bought her,
And drowned her in the night.

She's not safe at home,
She's not safe at school,
Only one place she can roam,
To break the rule.

He found her and smiled,
Her hiding spot is gone,
And she is most beguiled,
As she sees a strange new dawn.

He makes her laugh and smile,
He's stupid but fun,
He sits awhile,
And makes too many a pun.

He trusts her, and he's sure,
That he can reveal to her his brutal bruises.

At first, she is taken back,
She didn't know what to say.
She can barely keep track,
Of the constant balancing game he's forced to play.

Then she realizes his true colors and his ways.
He's trusting and willing.
Willing to stay with her all his days,
Not needing any pointless distractions or filling.

She reveals to him her brutal bruises.

Not ones you can see, no.
Those that hide beneath her skin.
Wrapping her darkness is a dim glow.
The hope that she will win.

Together. They share brutal bruises.
