Here are tips on how to research successfully.

1. The key to good research is a variety of sources

2. Encyclopedias give a basic summary on the topic and can direct you to other sources. Books on similar topics are grouped together.

3. Libraries have more then just books, they also have magazines and newspapers, films, videos, DVDs, photos, CDs, audiotapes, and of course, books

4. The internet has many websites, but not all of them are trustworthy. Encyclopedia websites and major news outlets are good. So are academic institutions and government agencies.

5. Primary sources are real first person accounts from people who lived near the event Or in the time period.

6. Primary sources don't have to be interviews, they can be letters, a journal, or a document from the time period you are studying.

It is good to have a variety of sources when researching. Libraries are a great place to start. Try checking encyclopedias first. They are trustworthy and can help lead you to other sources. Start researching early, don't wait till the last minute, you might not have time to find and read sources.
