Here are tips on problem solving. How to work through hard problems and questions in your study work.
1. DON'T SHUT DOWN
2. Think of it as a puzzle
3. Use ILSCR (I Love Short Car Rides)- Identify the problem. List what you know and don't know. Develop a strategy to figure out what you don't know. Carry out your strategy. Reflect on your answer.
4. For ILSCR, step 2, star, highlight, or underline what you don't know. E.g. names, words, phrases.
5. Step three, how develop a strategy, think about this. How are you going to find the words, names, or phrases you don't know? You can look it up on the internet, or ask a friend, or a teacher, or a parent.
6. When you are reflecting for step 6, ask yourself this: Does it make sense? Did you answer the question completely? What did you learn? Could you have done this differently?
