*I have been thinking long and hard about a scene to write about and since 27 and 28 are connected, I had to watch 28 as well to make a more informed choice. Then I thought about shows with flashbacks and "pictures from the past" and since these two episodes have some, I decided to try my hand at it. (By the by, I listened to Mystic Messenger's soundtracks while writing this. I'm now guilty)

The adorable picture above isn't mine, credits to the owner (Regrettably, I don't know who the owner is). Enjoy!

Episode 27-28

Director: So there's this scene when Kimoto-san takes out this album of childhood photos of the judo club. We need to take these pictures by today, can you do it?

Photographer: What choice do I have? (He starts sobbing mentally)

At the far corner of the room, Ran is comforting the actor for her younger self. The make-up artists have done a brilliant job in prepping her. The little girl called Nagisa was crying due to built up nervousness and pressure. Conan stood next to Ran, who was currently hugging the little girl to coax her to stop crying. It does not seem to be working very well though.

"Ran-chan, is Nagisa-chan all right now?" The director shouted.

"Not yet! Give me another few minutes!" She replied.

The director visible hunched her back, a little disappointed that the nicest girl around could not quite calm their newest member. She understood that it was the little girl's first time on set even though they were just taking group photos for the scene but what is so scary about the crew? In fact, these children gathered today are the industry's best teenage actors, even though this is a one-off thing.

Conan plopped down next to the girl and just patted her back. Surprisingly, the girl stopped sobbing and turned to the boy. Conan was startled by her sudden glance and struggled to say something. He looked up at Ran and frowned, silently pleading for help. His big brothers are not available today -Kaito needed to be at the 'Magic Kaito' set while Shinichi had cram school till six in the evening.

Yes, the genius needs cram school.

Conan could only look to his big sister figure for help, but right now, she does not seem to know what to do either. The girl was against anyone hugging her so he was not going to try that as well. Instead, he took a deep breath and introduced himself.

"Hello, my name is Kudo Conan. You can call me Conan-kun. What's your name?"

Ran looked like she wanted to help her answer when the girl spoke up herself. "Nagisa... Shimada Nagisa."

Conan: Can I call you Nagisa-chan? Or would you prefer Shimada-san?

Nagisa: It's fine. My friends call me Sa-chan.

Conan: Would that be better?

Nagisa simply nodded, all traces of tears now gone. Ran watched in awe and amusement as the two children interacted. Perhaps all the girl needed was a friend her age.

Conan: Well then Sa-chan, can you tell me why are you crying?

Nagisa was silent for a while and Conan grew scared -afraid that he had said something wrong and offensive. He never had good social skills, as his big brothers loved to tease him about and rub in his face. Sure, he was closer to his father but he had some skills in communicating. Like the Detective boys for example. He never had problems talking to them, like discussing a particular scene or playing soccer on set and things like that.

Oh right, some are orchestrated by the director.

But still-!

Nagisa: I don't know anyone here, and everyone looks scary. I want my Papa, I want to go home!

She nearly burst into tears again so fortunately, she did not. Conan smiled in understanding. "Shall I accompany you today then? I'll be your friend."

Nagisa looked at Conan with wide blue eyes and nodded her head in agreement. He held out his hand to her, ignoring the aww from Ran.

"Director! We're ready!" Ran reported and soon, a make-up artist came to Nagisa to touch up the little girl's smudged make-up. The adult nagged softly at the girl and she apologised profusely, doing her best not to cry again to prevent her new make-up from smudging. Conan bit his lip as he stared at the girl.

SHE LOOKS JUST LIKE RAN-NEE-CHAN IN THE PHOTOS!

His face turned beet red immediately as he remembered something he said to her just last year and how embarrassing it was when his big brother heard it. Shinichi especially did not take the news well and thought of him as his little rival there and then.

"Ran-nee-chan, would you marry me when I grow up?"

Ran took a picture of the duo with a teasing grin. Oh, she was so sharing the photos to Sonoko and the Kudo's.
