Simon and I have overcome this awkwardness between us and I was actually starting to enjoy my day out with him. I sat on the bench in the park with the buggy and all the shopping bags watching Simon play with Alexys in the park. He's so tall she must be having fun just by being that high up. He held her and walked around to the different sets to play on, showing her each one and his smile growing bigger each time she reacted. This is nice. I took out my phone and started to record a video of them both playing. Simon was sat cross legged in the sand pit and Alexys was slamming her fists into the sand while Simon was trying to teach her how to play properly. I stopped recoding and put my phone back in my pocket just before Simon picked her up and headed back over here, with a crying baby in his arms
"I think she's hungry or something" He said holding her out to me. I took the baby from his arms and checked her nappy first, clean, before pulling out a plastic spoon and one of those Ella's kitchen things
"Hey look, what's this?" I said in my baby voice to get her attention. Her cries started to calm down as I waved the brightly colored food packet in front of her face.
"Does somebody want some num nums?" I asked her. I started to feed her and looked up at Simon who was looking at me with a weird face
"What?" I chuckled
"You" He laughed
"Shut up" I laughed with him.
"I've been meaning to ask you something" I've finally decided I'm going to ask him about his conversation with Ethan. It's been bugging me all day and I just want to know. This can go two ways, Simon will trust me and tell me or he will keep it a secret. Probably the first one but at least he'll know that I know.
"What were you and Ethan talking about in the kitchen before I came down?" I asked and Simon looked away from me.
"Oh nothing just when all they guys are next meeting up because we haven't seen each other in a while" He said, he really isn't as good of a liar as I remember
"Don't ruin everything by lying to me" I told him as I continued to feed Alexys but I looked up at him for a short moment as I spoke.
"You won't believe me either way" He mumbled
"What?" I asked
"Don't say anything to him Chris" Simon said, his eyes meeting mine
"Just tell me Simon" I told him
"No, promise me you won't bring this up to him if I tell you" He said with a serious look in his eyes
"Okay I promise, now tell me" I said
"First you need to tell me what you heard" He said
"Ethan kept going on about how he was doing everything to protect me and dragging up whatever you two were going on about would make me hate him." I told him
"Oh god, of course you heard that" He sighed
"It's about me and you when we uh, broke up. Ethan knew the truth, that nothing happened with that girl and I but he found out after like 2 weeks. At that point you already knew you were pregnant didn't you? Obviously Ethan did not want to tell you because we both know that he was waiting for me to fuck up somewhere down the line so I'd be out of your life. So he never told you, that I was in fact innocent because as you heard you've moved on and there's no point dragging it back up for you to hate him" He explained
"I'm honestly getting so fucking tired of this breakup being brought up into almost every conversation." I sighed standing up to put Alexys in her pram.
"You asked" He told me
"Well I wish I didn't if I knew we'd be discussing your loyalty again" I told him.
"Ouch" He said quietly
"I think it's time we head home now" I said referring to Alexys and I.
"Okay let's go" He said. I would tell him no but his car is there since he drove to my house this morning. It was about a ten-minute walk home and we walked mostly in silence, Simon pushing Alexys while I walked next to them. When we reached my house I turned to face him.
"Call me if you want to come out again or I'll call you to see if you're free" I told him, he nodded in response.
"Okay I'll see you later then" I said turning to unlock my front door
"Wait Chris, don't do this" He said reaching over me and holding the door handle to stop me from unlocking it
"Don't do what?" I asked turning to look up at him towering over me
"This. We've taken one step forward and now we've been pushed two steps back" He said
"What do you want me to do Simon?" I asked him
"Don't be mad at me. I told you what you wanted to know, I'm not in the wrong. You're angry Chris and you don't know who to direct it at. All you know is that it's easier for you to be angry at me and that's what you're doing so I'm asking you please don't because I really like what we have now. It's one of the only things I have in my life, please don't take it away from me" He said his eyes flashing that same emotion that I've been seeing a lot of lately. Vulnerability. He's letting his guard down. I really believe what he tells me when I see that. He can lie to me all he wants but I'll always see through them because his eyes give everything away. Those damn blue eyes.
