"Good morning, Lin--" I looked around to the empty kitchen.

She's not here.

Then I remembered that I fired her last night.

Fantastic.

I sighed and made myself breakfast.

The only thing I knew how to cook was scrambled eggs, and french toast, which is not a proper breakfast compare to what she does. It will have to do.

Man, I hope that she shows up at the courthouse.

I can't help but think that she might not show up. Shaking away the negative thoughts, I got in my car and headed to court.

She was nowhere to be found when I arrived there.

Maybe she's running late.

To kill time I filled up the marriage license applications. Then a woman directed me to a big office.

"Good morning, Mr. Henderson!" she read from the application that I handed to her.

I glanced down at her name tag. "Good morning, Mrs. Gilbert."

"I see that we're missing someone," She read through the files. "Ms. Smith?"

I sighed. Where are you, Linda?

"Sorry I'm late, I'm here!" I heard Linda say coming in from the door.

I got up and kissed her on the cheek, mouthing "thank you" She looked startled as looked at me. I leaned in towards her a bit more. We're going to be a couple soon, might as well get used to it.

"Thank you for coming; you will not regret it," I whispered lowly in her ear.

"This is my beautiful bride-to-be, Linda Smith." I squeezed her hand.

Mrs. Gilbert gazed at the two of us warmly "such a lovely couple."

She blushed and sat down next to me. I meant what I said. Who knows, maybe our relationship will could work out after all.

"Shall we begin?" Mrs. Gilbert asked.

We all read through the paper works, then finally signed the marriage applications.

"Congrats, best of luck!" Mrs. Gilbert smiled genuinely.

"Thank you." we replied in unison.

Before going our separate ways, we met at the parking lot to schedule tasks that need to be done before we wed.

"Have your things packed. I will stop by in a few hours to pick you up. " I said, admiring Linda's sparkling eyes.

She cleared her throat. "Okay--and-- I'm sorry for coming late," she replied as she avoids making eye contact with me.

"No worries. You came that's all that matters." I replied we bid our goodbye as I walked towards my car while she did the same.

________

"Does that covers everything?" I asked, handing back the paperworks.

"Yes, it does. You are a generous man, Mr. Henderson." she beamed.

I chuckled, "It doesn't hurt to be generous once in a while,"

I interacted with the receptionist of the hospital where Linda's father was being located.

She had dirty blonde hair, red lipstick, and the palest skin I've ever seen. Indeed, she was a beauty. But another woman has already captured my heart. The receptionist, she then giggles as if I've said the funniest thing in the world.

I smirked. "Especially when it comes to my wife. I give away anything in a heartbeat."

"Oh!" She sounded a bit disappointed then switch back to a more professional attitude, "Mrs. Gilbert will be with you, shortly."

"Thank you, Ms. Hamilton."

After paying all of the medical bills. They were now preparing to release Mr. Smith. I was a bit impatient, so I went to search for him myself.

"Who are you, son?" he questioned eyeing me carefully. I let out my right hand; he hesitantly shakes it.

"I'm your daughter fiancé," I answered proudly. "I'm taking you with me to surprise her."

Linda's father asked on our way home, "How come I've never heard of you before?"

"We have enough time to get to know each other, sir," I said respectfully. He has just gotten out of the answer I didn't want him to be stressed out about anything.

I glanced at him from the corner of my eyes and cautiously had my eyes on the road.

I feel a little hurt that she never mentions me to her family.

"... She did tell me about some rich guy she works for." he continued as he remembers slowly.

I chuckled. "Well, I don't consider myself like that, because I've worked hard for everything that I've gotten, Mr. Smith."

"Call me Kevin, son," he suggested. We spotted Linda, struggling terribly with the luggage as we parked the car.

I smiled. Linda's father studied me carefully as he searched for words to say.

"... Take care of her." he pats me on the shoulder as he got out of the car caused Linda to almost faint from seeing him unexpectedly.

"Dad? Are you here? But I didn't pay--" she said with tears running down her cheeks.

When she glimpsed at me and understood everything, she ran towards me and hugged me.

Wow! Didn't know shy Linda can do such a thing.

"You didn't have to do that--thank you so much!" she wept.

I pulled her closer in my arms to calm her down. "I wanted to,"

"Why don't you stay for dinner, son-in-law." her mother peeked out to spy on us.

"Is that okay with you?" my hand went around her neck as my thumb rested on her chin.

She nodded as she eyed me arranging all of her luggage in my car before stepping into her home.

This is going to be interesting.
