The air grew tense. Sana froze, unable to respond at first. Her heart thumped faster, her palms clammy.
"Y-y-yes... I'm really sorry," she stammered.
Jeongyeon scratched her nape awkwardly. "Actually... I should be the one apologizing. I was rude earlier."
Silence settled over them, thick and uncomfortable. Both confused, both caught off guard by fate's twisted sense of humor.
Why her? Of all people, why my new roommate?
To break the ice, Jeongyeon forced a laugh. "Hey, don't look so serious. Hahaha. You haven't even told me your name yet."
Sana blinked, then laughed nervously. "Oh—hahaha. My name is Minatozaki Sana. But just call me Sana."
Japanese? Jeongyeon thought. Wow.
"Anyway," Sana added quickly, "I'm sorry again. I actually have to meet my friend soon. I already cleaned the room, so please rest well!"
Before Jeongyeon could reply, Sana darted out of the room, almost running.
Jeongyeon stood there, baffled. Did I scare her? She sighed, realizing just how harsh she'd been earlier. Am I really that rude?
Then it hit her. The bracelet!
Jeongyeon rushed to the Lost and Found office, hope fluttering in her chest. And there it was—her grandmother's bracelet.
Her eyes widened. "Already? Someone reported it this fast? Whoever it was... they must be an angel"
She took out her phone, hesitating for a moment before typing:
To: 010-XXXX-YYYY
Hello, sorry to bother you. Did you perhaps find a bracelet with '유' on it?As she left for the convenience store, she scanned the shelves. I should prepare something as thanks... A box of chocolate maybe? But is that too plain? Sweets? Chips?
In the end, she settled on a simple box of chocolates. Nothing fancy, just sincere.
Her phone buzzed.
From: 010-XXXX-YYYY
Yes, I found the 유 bracelet. Do you have time tomorrow? Maybe around lunchtime?A smile spread across Jeongyeon's face. She texted back, agreeing to meet at the campus park. Her mood instantly lifted, the weight of the day melting away.
It's back... I thought I'd lost it forever.
Swinging the plastic bag of chocolates happily, she returned to the dorm. Sana wasn't there—probably still with her friends.
"Should I sleep first...?" she muttered, setting the chocolates on the couch.
After a shower, she lay in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
I wasn't trying to be cold. It was just bad timing. Will she hate me for it...?
