THIRTY-NINE

USTULATION; EPISODE TWELVE (IV)

MAGNUS AWOKE FIRST DUE TO hearing his phone ring, which turned out to be Clary, asking for his help. Again. He sighed, continuing with his morning routine and placing a black coffee on the bedside table next to Nico's sleeping form. Magnus mentally debated whether or not to wake the shadowhunter up; Nico didn't nearly sleep enough but Magnus wanted some support in his venture into the institute, and that support was needed from his boyfriend.

The warlock carefully sat down on the bed next to him, running a hand over his boyfriend's face. Nico's nose twitched in response as he sneezed when Magnus continued.

"Mags, stop it," Nico scrunched up his nose when the warlock ran his hand over his ear. Magnus grinned, continuing until Nico let out a small giggle in response to the stimulation applied to his ear.

After a few more minutes of tickling, Nico opened his eyes, glaring softly up at his boyfriend. "That's mean."

Magnus smiled softly in response, "I need you to accompany me to the institute." He wasn't expecting to get such a large reaction to that, when Nico groaned and slapped an arm over his head, "I'm never going back there."

Seeing the humiliation present on his boyfriend's face, Magnus leaned over to kiss him. "Nicholas, darling, you have to go back at some point. It's part of your life now."

"What about if I don't want it to be apart of my life now?" Nico asked, not knowing what to do as his life collapsed around him.

Magnus sighed – he was going to have a few words with Alec for breaking Nico's heart like he did. But he couldn't just ignore his own feelings for the brunet as well, he had to make a big gesture to force Alec into realising his feelings.

But first, Magnus needed to knock some sense into his boyfriend, who was sinking more and more into a depressive state he was all too familiar with. Magnus couldn't let Nico fall that deep again, not after the last time. The warlock laid down and wrapped an arm around his boyfriend before he pulled the blond towards him.

"Nicholas, listen to me very carefully." Nico looked up towards his face. "You may not like the institute and what it is, but you have people there who care about you – Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Ava, even Alec still." As Nico went to deny this, Magnus quietened him with a kiss before continuing, "I understand that you haven't had the best experience with other shadowhunters but you're one of them, believe it or not. Listen, you and I both know that you could give up on this at any point but you didn't want to for whatever reason but regardless of that, Clary and Jace are your siblings, they need you as does Ava, now that she's pregnant and all."
