summary: you and ponyboy are best friends. you guys are curious about kissing and different romantic things, so you decide to experiment.

[This is so dorky I love it]

"Why do people think it's okay to make out in the school hallways in highschool? There's still young teenagers there that don't wanna see that shit." I mumbled, flipping through the pictures of Ponyboy's freshman yearbook. I was laying across his bed, my head hanging off of it as I held the book in front of my eyes.

"I know, right? Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with people dating in highschool, but I don't wanna see that on my way to class." He agreed, his feet kicked up on his desk as he absentmindedly tapped his pencil against his desk.

We were both sixteen now, but neither of us had engaged in anything romantic exactly. Sure, he dated Cathy Carlson, but he was always unsure of how to act around her since their relationship was so sudden. Also, he had been heartbroken when he found out Cathy was just simply using him as a distraction to get over her ex, Bryon.

Ever since then, Ponyboy had distracted himself from romance and girls. Until recently, when he had mentioned he would be open to experimenting with someone when it came to kissing and all that.

I didn't know if it was because he felt heartbroken or genuinely curious, but I couldn't help but want to experiment myself. Would it be so bad?

"Hey Ponyboy, when you mentioned experimenting with kissing and all that... Who would you have even wanted to try it with?" I asked, now sitting up normally on the bed. We had been lounging around his room all day, the window open and lights off since the summer day had provided enough light already. I was in a tank top and shorts while Ponyboy had just thrown on a shirt he left unbuttoned and had stayed in the boxers he slept in. It didn't bother me, I had grown up with him.

"Close friend or somethin. Probably someone like you if I'm being honest." He glanced at me, smiling. I shut the yearbook in my hands, smiling in an amused manner.

"Oh yeah? I thought you weren't into me like that?" I smirked. He rolled his eyes, setting his pencil down.

"Oh don't worry, I'm not." He clarified. I set the yearbook on the ground and sat back up.

"You're lucky, I have low standards. I'd even date someone like you." I joked and he chuckled.

"Yeah, well I'm very different than you. I wouldn't sink as low as to date someone like you." He teased and I threw a pillow at him.

"So what are you saying? You willing to try something?" He asked. I shrugged.

"Might as well. According to you I'll be single for the rest of my life so it wouldn't hurt."

He stood up and sat across from me on the bed, smiling. We were now sitting criss cross, facing each other as we both awkwardly smiled.

"We should have a safe word." Ponyboy said and I scoffed.

"A safe word? For kissing? Why can't I just say stop?"

"If you start gaining feelings for me during this, just say cranberry juice."

I couldn't help but laugh. "Cranberry juice? That's random."

"Just do it, okay?"

"I doubt I'll catch feelings, but alright."

"Well I don't know, I'm pretty charming." He smirked at me and I rolled my eyes.

"Okay, do you trust me?" He asked in a serious tone. I smirked now.

"You're acting like this is life or death. Just kiss me."

Ponyboy leaned in and softly connected his lips with mine. It started off as a simple peck, then he parted from me momentarily.

"You okay?" He asked, leaving his forehead against mine. I nodded.

"Keep going."

He brought his lips back to mine, his hands cupping my face. I wrapped my arms around his neck, tilting my head.

It felt weird kissing my best friend. It's not like it meant anything, we were just curious. Right?

He pulled me onto his lap so I was straddling him and we parted for a moment.

"You're pretty good at this." He breathed and I smiled, shrugging.

"I have a gift. You're not too bad yourself." I smiled back at him, my arms still around his neck.

We held eye contact, both of our smiles slowly fading again. I leaned in again and placed another kiss on his lips, moving slowly and softly.

We parted again and he looked at me, his lips slightly parted. He had a different look in his eyes, and suddenly he spoke up.

"Cranberry juice."
