I cursed that it was Monday as I walked into the gates, trying to minimalize my headache caused by waking up so early. Surprisingly, I was actually looking forward to school though, which is the first time in... well...ever. It obviously had everything to do with the fact that Katie was now supposedly my friend, but I still wasn't sure if she'd do what Noah did and completely ignore me when everyone was looking.

I had Biology first, which I hurried to after tutor in which Mr Peters told us that we all HAD to go and sign up for the musical (he was the drama teacher and I had a feeling that it was undersubscribed this year due to the obscurity of the chosen musical). Let's just say that my name was NOT on the sign-up list and definitely wouldn't be any time soon, especially considering that Mackenzie was going for the female lead – she'd been bragging about if for forever. I don't want to sound nasty, but that could have also been a factor contributing to the lack of numbers, but I couldn't be sure.

She came in five minutes after me, swishing her newly dyed blonde hair for everyone to see. I gave a small smile when nobody noticed.

"NO, it's NOT the same Carrie!" She said to her friend, who was now had a slight pink tinge to her face, "It's HONEY blonde not BRONZE CREAMY blonde – see DIFFERENT SHADES!" I covered my mouth in an attempt to stop laughing – she was definitely on a war path alright. Katie gave me a smile behind her as she walked over slowly, also obviously trying not to laugh.

"No, it's QUEEN BEE not MEAN GIRL!" She whispered to me, shaking her head. I laughed as she sat down next to me and Mrs Williams stared at us from the front. I didn't dare look at her, but I could feel her gaze on me, focused probably on the fact that I was no longer on my own. Surely she saw last lesson?

"So how are you anyway?" Katie asked me as everyone was getting their books out. My books were already on the desk, a side effect of getting here so early.

Oh, I'm good I guess

"Ok you know what we need to talk about?" I gave her a questioning look "The English Coursework!"

Why?

"Because mine's a freakin' nightmare at the moment" I laughed "I'm not joking – all Connor cares about is the state of his hair!"

Wait, are we talking about the fact he runs his hand through it every five minutes?

"More like five seconds! Our desk was filled with dandruff by the end!" She shook her head "How's yours going?"

Ok I think – Noah's letting me do most of the work so that's ok

"Oh yeah I forgot you were partnered with Noah." She suddenly looked distant, probably thinking about something "Anyway, so yeah – it's safe to say that my English grade isn't going anywhere great at the moment!"

Which one are you doing?

"The story one – I can't even comprehend anything Shakespeare writes – it's about the sea or something I think"

You think?

"Connor, along with having an obsession with flipping his hair, decided that it was his project and so I'm leaving him to it for the most part. It's a bad idea I know but I can't be bothered to argue with him!"

Just then, Mackenzie turned around and gave us both the death glare that she gave anyone she hated. I had a feeling she thought it was really intimidating, but I found the sudden urge to laugh about how much effort went into making us know that she hated us.

"Oh, hello Mackenzie – sorry I didn't see you there!" Katie said sweetly, smiling about how the disgust on Mackenzie's face multiplied.

"NO I bet you didn't – have you dumped him yet or still clinging to the hope that he won't do it again?" Wow. She was really going for it, I could tell.
