Of blue skies and dark seas.

Every now and then,
I take to the skies.
up and above I'm an eagle soaring,
majestic mountains become my throne,
the thick unending clouds my deserving carpet.

so swift, so free
in between oaks and teaks,
I'm a golden swallow.
Oh what a time to feel alive,
with the air under my wings.
I taunt the dull, dark earth with grace,
overcoming its heavy unrelenting pull.
right there, right then
I'm aware
of what it means to be free.

Often too I take a dive into the seven seas,
the shallow blue waters, a beautiful trap
so I close my eyes, I let go
give into the pull of treacherous waves
further and further from its shores,
into darker, desolate waters.
I try to kick and claw away,
I sink deeper.
the sea becomes a cold, endless hideous pit.
full of monsters and demons that lurk
right there, right then
under the cruel, crushing mercy of the sea
I'm aware of true despair.

the end.
