new zealand dictionary

These are common new Zealand slang words. I am born and raised in NZ so these are my fav.

Shot - can be used as thank you or can mean nicely done.

Bugger - can mean damn it can also mean kids like "oh the little bugger"

Jandals - meaning flip flops or thongs depending where you are.

Red bands - new Zealand's favorite gumboots

Marmite - a tangy toast spread. Similar to Vegemite.

Pavalova - a big merangue cake basically made of egg whites and sugar with other things too.
BTW Australia tried to take credit for this but it's ours.

Togs - swimwear

Munted - ruined or trashed.

Stoked - happy with or pleased with something.

Chuffed - basically the same as stoked.

Yeah nah - basically means no.

Chur - thank you

Sweet as - means thanks or no problem.

Choka - full or stuffed.

Hard case - funny person.

Muppet - an idiot.

Yonks - a long time.

horey - trashed or bad like "that old car looks horey".

Snags - sausages

Ta - short for thanks.

Pufta - scaredy cat, softy or lightweight.
