 September  19, 2018

I bury my head in my hands as his voice becomes too real.

It was great meeting you, Perri...

I lean my head against the wall and hug my knees tight as the flood of tears force their way out.  I gulp in a heavy breath, trying to calm down, but I can't.  Nothing can calm me down, except for Liam.

Between breaths, I hear the faint sound of footsteps making their way toward me.

They stop suddenly, like they're right in front of me.

"What's wrong?" His voice is so quiet, yet it echoes in the space.

I force my eyes open and stare up at him.  He's wearing the outfit I laid out for him that day.  Light gray dress shirt, black slacks, and the shoes I got him for his twenty-eighth birthday.  He seems so real and present.

"Everything..."  I let out a sob.

"You wanna talk about it?" he squats down so we're at eye level.  I notice his hands and he's wearing his wedding ring.

     "No," I sniff.

Liam lets out a small laugh, "why am I not surprised?"  He sits down next to me and leans his head against the wall, too.

I know this is probably a dream or hallucination, just in my mind, but I don't care.  I wrap my arms around him and rest my head on his chest, and I feel him hold me like he used to.  It seems so very real.

"It's just another day," Liam whispers, quoting me.

"It's not just another day," I argue, like he always would.

And we just stay here, silent, while my eyes grow heavy again.
