When summer arrived in Riverdale, the town was quiet. The Bartholdy children were just returning home from the airport, their Uncle now in tow. Jackson Bartholdy was slim. His hair reached his shoulders and had the slightest bit of facial hair. He looked far different from his brother. Steven looked more like their mother, and Jackson, more like their father.
The Serpents had recently moved out, returning to what was left of their beloved trailer park. Clemintine had yet to adjust to the absence of her friends.
Throughout the summer, Clemintine had spent most of her time with Veronica, mostly to visit Archie in prison, thus causing the two to grow closer. The blonde had also spent time with Cheryl. She took up knife throwing and practiced with her cousin, who used her bow and arrow.
Inside the Bartholdy's large home, Clemintine sat on the couch, Jackson went upstairs to unpack, and Julian closed the front door.
Julian sat down on the couch beside his sister. She stared off into the distance, her face void of any emotion. "You've been quiet for the past few weeks... What's going on?" This had been the first time in days that he's been alone with her.
"I miss Dad. And Mom. We used to take road trips every summer, just for the hell of it." Clemintine responded. Her heart was heavy. But that wasn't the only reason why she was upset.
Julian sighed. He tried not to let his emotions get the best of him. "I miss them too."
Clemintine nodded. "Cheryl's throwing an end of summer party tomorrow." She changed the subject and finally looked at her brother. "Are you going?"
"Of course." Julian picked up his sisters hand, giving it a comforting squeeze.
Jackson came back down the stairs. "I know that I was going to unpack, but then I had an overwhelming craving for Pop's. Who's in?"
The siblings went with their Uncle to the diner. Once there, Pop Tate was the first to greet them. "Jackson Bartholdy. I haven't seen you in years." The older man smiled brightly.
Jackson smiled back. He had fond memories of coming to Pop's as a kid. "Well, you'll be seeing a lot more of me for awhile, Pop."
Pop's head turned to look at Clemintine. "Your uncle here could eat twice as much as you, back in the day. Sometimes I wonder if you got your appetite from him." He chuckled. "Anyway, what can I get for you folks?"
"Just a vanilla milkshake for me, Pop." Julian ordered first.
"Burger, fries, and a banana milkshake." Clemintine ordered next, then walked away to find a booth. Julian smiled, glad that his only sibling was keeping up her appetite.
"Same for me." Jackson ordered last. He and Julian moved to the booth where Clemintine waited.
The bell to the diner rang. Clemintine looked up out of instinct. A smile rose on her lips as Cait walked in, followed by Fangs, and a Serpent named Max, all of which she used to tutor. She hadn't seen them for most of the summer. The three had been some of Clemintine's favorite students. Her mood instantly changed when Sweet Pea entered. Clemintine turned away.
