Neil is calling you, my phone said.
Not only was the phone vibrating, but I feel my hands doing the same thing too. I feel a jolt, as if your call was as important as a call from the White House, as if you will never call again in the next hundreds of years, like this was one chance in a lifetime and I had nothing else to lose.
I clicked the answer button, pressed it against my ear, and inhaled as much oxygen as I can store in my lungs. "Hello?"
"Hey, Rae," you responded. And I expect myself to fall off the bed, lie ridiculously on the cold floor, and just stare at the ceiling that seems to be a sky now in my blur.
