 Chapter 19 ~ Change

Vivienne cleared her throat suddenly aware of the uncomfortable dryness in her mouth. Her hand shakily rose to her forehead but all traces of the raging fever had disappeared. In fact everything seemed so normal that she had deluded herself into thinking that she had imagined everything.

She was deliriously giggling. Then her gaze fell on the white werewolf staring in her direction. Her heart all but stopped. With wide eyes she crawled backwards searching the area for the dagger. She spotted it just past the white werewolf.

No. Not just a white werewolf. Everett. She had turned him into a werewolf. The wolf, Everett, took a few steps forward and Vivienne flinched. Was he going to kill her for doing this to him? That was the plan all along, wasn’t it? Her death was always foreseen to be at the hands of Everett and his group of friends.

Everett whined and sat down. His pink tongue darting out and running over his muzzle. When she didn’t move he lied down.

“Are you going to attack me?” Vivienne whispered.

Everett tilted his head. Could he understand her in this form?

Making a split decision Vivienne rose to her feet and moved closer to Everett, watching him carefully but he made no move, blue eyes on her curiously. She picked up the dagger and glanced around for any sign hinting to the direction that Everett’s horse had fled in. No such luck. She sighed, guess she would have to continue without Shadow.

She took a step forward out of the clearing and Everett whined again. She sighed again but decided to humor him. He had moved and was facing south. His gaze switched from her to south. Why was he trying to get her to go south?

“Are you trying to get me to walk into another of your traps?” Vivienne asked tiredly. She had had enough of putting up with this type of stuff. All she wanted was to be completely safe and for once in for her life be happy.

Everett whined once more and she groaned knowing that he wouldn’t stop. For whatever reason he would probably be persistent until she went in that direction. She stepped past him without another glance.

She could hear sounds of pursuit but once again didn’t acknowledge him. Eventually she caught sight of what he was directing her to.

Shadow was standing close by, directly in front of her. She stepped forward and grabbed the reins and brushed the horse’s flank. When Everett stepped closer the Shadow’s eyes grew panicked and he shied away seeing Everett as a danger.

Vivienne held onto the reins calming the horse. After a few moments where Vivienne had thought she would lose control of Shadow and have to find him again the horse calmed. Although it still eyed the werewolf uneasily. Vivienne blew at her bangs in irritation Everett would only create more problems if he followed her.

“Why are you still in that form?” she asked annoyed. “Change back.” Everett whined again and bowed his head. “Turn into a human.” Still nothing from him. “Are you stuck? Do you not know how to change back?” Everett kept staring at her with those intelligent eyes. “Do you even understand me at all? Or am I wasting my time?”

Everett lay down again, resting his head on his paws. Maybe he was stuck like this. Maybe because of what she had unknowingly done to him he was stuck like that forever. She felt bad for it but if he couldn’t shift back then there wasn’t anything she could do to help him.

She pointed in a random direction. “You should leave. I don’t want you following me.” Everett stood up and glanced in that direction then back at her. “Go away,” she ordered feeling frustrated. Why was it so hard for him to leave her alone?
