'Elvis, Bill, and myself sat in the studio, just drinking cokes and shooting the bull. After a bit Elvis got up, looking a bit tense and nervous.
He started banging on his guitar. I picked up a chord or two and then bill began to pick at his bass.
Suddenly Elvis was jumping all around the studio. We'd homed in on a tune- "That's all right, Mama." At the time we thought we were just making a racket, especially when the door swung open and Sam put his head around the corner.
"What the Devil are you doing?" He asked us. I guess we all looked a bit shamefaced. "We don't know!" I said with a shrug.
"Well," Sam said with a grin, "You'd better find out real quick and don't lose it. Run through it again and let's put it on tape."
The three of us just looked at each other and then repeated the song much as we had done before, Elvis leaping about just the same!
That became our first proper session.'
