These blackened Egyptian eyes
Whose home are eternally welded into my skin
Remind me of who I am
And where my family has been.
From the streets of Egypt,
To the farmlands of Jerusalem,
After a ride across an ocean ,
Landing in a foreign country,
It has all led to me.
These tattoos that have found a home on my wrists
Represent much more
Than good luck or protection.
In these eyes, I see my family.
In these eyes, I see my heritage.
In these eyes, I see myself.
