On the Wall

"The mirror lies,"
People say.
But does it still lie
At midnight, when I'm
Wide awake staring
Into it with all that I've got?
Does it still lie
When the house is silent,
And I'm the only one
Who could be the wiser?
Its just me, the air and the mirror,
With the silence broken by
The reflection of me.
Sitting there, silently wishing
That they were right,
It's perfectly obvious to me
That they are not.
Yes, the mirror can lie...
But only when the
World is listening.
