A year ago, two test subjects left Hawkins. Both to avoid being recaptured by Hawkins National Laboratory and disappearing forever, and to prove that they could. To prove that they had power now. So that when Anne and Oswald Campbell returned to Hawkins, Indiana, they knew they could do it on their own terms.
Anne Campbell is happy to be back. She's missed the friends she had made that fateful fall week. More than that, she's excited to make new ones. Because the lab had agreed that, as long as they stayed in Hawkins and under their watch, she could go to school. She could be a normal child. Whatever that means when you have super powers and the knowledge that another world lurked just parallel to your own.
Except the group isn't all together. Eleven is still missing, and even as Anne tries to move on, she's painfully aware of the hole she's left. More than anything she wishes El has survived to see their new life. Except she didn't. So Anne isn't letting her chance go to waste, knowing what a gift it is for her to have it.
Once more, Oswald Campbell returns to the lab. Both as part of their conditions and because, in truth, he knows nothing else. For all the pain the place has caused him, it's safe compared to the unknown world outside it. At the very least this time he's there on his own terms. With a real, paying job, supporting a life outside it. It almost feels...good.
Except something isn't quite right. Inside the lab, something lurks just beyond the gate into another world. Outside the lab, the survivors of the Upside Down have become strange. Will Byers had visions of another world, while Gage Loomis's mind has seemingly been shielded by an unknown force. Dr. Owens theorizes it's just trauma.
If only any of it was that easy.
