Chapter twelve

I pulled him into my room before slinging my guitar strap over my head. He smiled before sitting on the edge of my bed.

"So why is this song so special?"

I shrugged while tuning my guitar trying to seem unembarrassed. "I liked the meaning of it...I thought maybe you'd like it too."

"I'll enjoy any song you're singing."

I blushed and bit my lip before clearing my throat.

I started playing the guitar and I looked down letting some of my hair hide my face. “I can’t sleep tonight.

Wide awake and so confused.

Everything’s in line,

But I am bruised.

I need a voice to echo,

I need a light to take me home,

I kinda need a hero,

Is it you?

I never see the forest for the trees.

I could really use your melody.

Baby I’m a little blind,

I think it’s time for you to find me.”

He pushed my hair behind my ear and I finally met his eyes, smiling as I sang. “Can you be my nightingale?
Sing to me,

I know you’re there.

You could be my sanity,

Bring me peace,

Sing me to sleep.

Say you’ll be my nightingale.”

He was grinning and I felt like we were the only two people in the world. “Somebody speak to me,

Cause I’m feeling like hell.

Need you to answer me,

I’m overwhelmed.

I need a voice to echo,

I need a light to take me home,

I need a star to follow,

I don’t know.

I never see the forest for the trees,

I could really use your melody.

Baby I’m a little blind,

I think it’s time for you to find me.”

At this point, I didn’t care what happened. I was brave enough to take this step and I and I know that I have courage. Even if it doesn’t go my way. “Can you be my nightingale?

Sing to me,

I know you’re there.

You could be my sanity,

Bring me peace,

Sing me to sleep.

Say you’ll be my nightingale.
