As the first class of the day filed into their seats I read what Snape had planned for the lesson. I was teaching the third year classes today, they were the only two that I had on the timetable. I read through the lesson and I was immediately disgusted. He was teaching them about werewolves. Not only was that not supposed to be taught until the end of the year but he was also teaching them about...Vampires. "Shit." I muttered so no-one would hear. I looked up and the class was sitting in their seats looking at me expectantly. "Okay so Professor Snape tells me that you have a four page essay on werewolves due today, so I will start by collecting them and then we can continue the lesson." I walked around the room to find that everyone had done their homework; they were all too scared of Snape not to. Once back at the teacher's desk I opened my copy of the text book to today's lesson. "Today we're going to be moving on to another nocturnal creature. Does anyone know what I am talking about?" As I had anticipated Hermione's hand shot into the air. "Hermione?" I sighed as I said it; I knew that she knew the answer. "Vampires." She said without uncertainty. "Well done Hermione. I am sure that you have all heard of the classic stories about vampires, Vladimir and Romanov- Dracula. They are all covered on page four-hundred and one." The class all flicked lazily to the backs of their books but I just waited, I didn't want this lesson to happen anymore than they did. When the last of them finally got there the lesson resumed. "Okay everyone; can anyone tell me what makes vampires different to humans- anyone?-" Hermione raised her hand again; "anyone but Hermione, tell me?" She blushed as she lowered her hand. Lavender's hand snaked up. "Yes Lavender?" She looked down at her textbook and answered nervously. "Vampires drink blood." I smiled.
"Yes that's right, you did however miss out a few key facts. If you all turn the page you will see that they are found in Albania for the most part, have a genetic aversion to werewolves- and according to the textbook they are all stronger and faster than humans and most definitely nocturnal. The textbook however is wrong. Although most vampires are nocturnal there are a large number that can roam the earth in daylight…” I continued dictating notes which they copied down studiously.
“For your homework..." Hermione's hand shot up yet again. "Yes Hermione?" I asked expectant of the imminent question that lurked on the next page of the text. "Professor what about... Nosferatu?" I answered trying not to show my frustration.
"Everyone turn to the next page." The class flipped the page as one. "Nosferatu. Where to start?" I paused. "Nosferatu are often misrepresented as just developed vampire royalty, and while this is true they are also an entirely different breed with their own hierarchy. Nosferatu drink human blood as well as human food, they are far more closely related to humans than vampires and thus don’t possess the strength or speed of their vampire counterparts. Also something that is not in the text is that they have the power to wield magic similar to any of you." The bell rang at that moment and I could have sighed in relief. "I want you to write a page essay on ways to repel vampires and the most effective ways of killing them." I closed the book and the class stood and began filing out, before they left I called out to them. "I won't be teaching you next lesson so I expect you to give Professor Lupin your essays. Good day." They began squeezing through the doorway.
The next lesson I managed to get away with just covering vampires and not teaching them about Nosferatu. So I skulked off to find Lupin.
