Beautiful In New York Completed

Chapter 7

It's pretty late that night.
Minutes before New Years.
Maya and Riley were putting on their jackets.
Shawn and Katy were on their own for New Years and so where Maya.
But the gang has decided to count their way into the New Year.

"You ready?" Maya asks.
"Let's go," Riley said and they went to the roof.

Immediately Riley didn't like what she saw.

"What are you doing here?" Riley asks and Maya looks around.
She smiles when she sees Lucas.

"You know why. Can we talk?" Lucas asks and Riley looks at Maya.
"Yes," Riley said and the went to the point of the roof to talk alone.

Maya laughs and sits down.
She didn't think she will be here and now she is here.
What is she going to do about a lot of stuff?

Maya's pov

What is going to happen about my feelings?
Looks like we really are here to stay and that isn't what I actually thought.
Maybe it will always just be a feeling but I don't think me and Josh...

"Everytime I see you, you are thinking. Busy mind?" a voice asks in the dark.
Maya doesn't take a second to ask who it is.
"Guess so. I don't know if they are going to solve everything," Maya says.

Josh smiles and sits down next to Maya.

"Think that's their problem," Josh said and Maya looks at him.
"And of course you're not here because of Riley," Maya said quite certain.
"You're right. I'm not," Josh said and Maya sits back.
"What do you want Josh?" Maya asks and Josh knew he had to answer.
"I think the two of us have a lot to talk about," Josh said.

He knew Maya knows what he is talking about.

"You think so?" Maya asks smiling.
"I know things are complicated since you came back," Josh said.

Maya looked at him for a second and looked back at where Riley and Lucas were talking.
They weren't fighting but it wasn't too happy either.

"Maya," Josh said.
"I definitely weren't expecting to see you," Maya said.
"Why?" Josh asked.

He didn't actually know why she wasn't expecting to see him but he will.

"You always kept yourself scarce when I was around," Maya said.

And there it was.
The one thing he could not actually have a better answer to.

"Liar," Josh said and Maya leans forward so she can look him in the eye.
"No. I'm not," Maya said.

Her voice wasn't exactly unsure.
She knew what she was saying is true.
And Josh did as well.

"You're right. I didn't always want to be with my family when you were there," Josh said.
"Why?" Maya asked.
"Cause I don't know how to act," Josh said.
"Josh," Maya said.

Her eyes were sparkling in the late night light.

"Maya you are an amazing girl. I knew that when I met you five years ago.
I just don't want to hurt you. I have seen how you are when you speak about your father. I guess I just didn't want to see you like that," Josh said and looked at Maya.

Her eyes were bluer than he remembered.
Or maybe he just never looked into them.

"And then you left. Maybe it was for the best," Josh said and broke eye contact.
"It definitely helped me to deal with a lot of things," Maya said and took a breath.
"It helped to know that someday everyone will be reunited," Maya said.
"Someday?" Josh asks.

Maya laughs.
The same word the two of them used years ago when they admitted they liked each other.
Josh looked at Maya for awhile.
Her eyes were sea blue and her smile could tell a thousand words.
He missed her and even though he knew he would see her again he kinda lost hope.
Josh takes Maya's hand and she looks at him.
A smile forms across Josh's mouth.
Maya laughed softly and Josh leaned closer to her.
Then their lips touched each other.
She never knew she could feel that way.
Fireworks start going of and everyone looks in the sky.
Everyone but Maya and Josh.
They were captured in the moment.
Josh pulls away and puts his head on top of Maya's.

Shawn came out to look for Maya and saw her with Josh.

"Sweetheart?" Shawn says and Maya knows this is bad news.
"What are you doing here Dad? I thought..."
"We're going back to Paris," Shawn said and Maya heart fell ten levels.

She stood up and ran inside.

"Maya!" Shawn said and went after her.

As soon as Maya went back inside she ran out the door.
Topanga and Cory were watching her as well as Katy.

"Shawn what is wrong?" Katy asked.
"She didn't handle it very good," Shawn said.
"Fabulous," Katy said and both the Matthews knew what this was about.

It's been a hour later since Shawn told Maya they are going back to Paris.
Riley found out and went to her room.
All their friends went back to home and Maya still wasn't back.
It's almost one o'clock in the morning and no one knew what is next.

"Aren't you going to go look for her?" Josh asked.
"Her reaction was everything but good," Shawn said.
"Of course it would be Shawn," Cory said.
"Katy isn't going to take the job Topanga. We are..."
"Yeah I figured. How are you going to survive now?" Topanga asked.
"I still have my business so we can go on," Shawn said.
"Wait what did Katy do?" Cory asked.
"She's my PA," Shawn said and Josh stood up.

"Ah so this is more for you than for Maya," Josh said.
"We thought she would relax about the baby if we took her here for awhile," Shawn said and everyone looked at him.

The word baby tres everyone off guard and Josh could hardly speak.

"Baby?"
"I'm going to be a father," Shawn said.
"You are already. How long did you think Maya would be okay? She was starting to adjust to being back in New York," Josh said.
"I know. We didn't think she would," Shawn said.
"Why? You told her you're here to stay," Josh said.
"No we didn't," Katy said and that took the wind out of Josh's soul.

Now that he couldn't believe.
Maya knew what was going on?
No that can't be true.

"Excuse me?" Cory said.
"She knew this was just a visit," Shawn said.
"That's not what she told us," Topanga said.
"Yeah. She told me it's for good," Josh said.
"Nope. Sorry. She lied," said Shawn.
