Ashton
"Ava, I'm going to pick you up," I whispered, gently lifting her into my arms to take to her the car. Last night, she'd fallen asleep, and woken up with a fever."Dad?"
"That's me, I'm taking you to grandma's,"
"All day?" she mumbled, pushing me away so that I put her down.
"Yeah, you're calling Lucy instead,"
As we went down in the lift, she put her weight back into me, starting to cough. If anything, she looked worse than yesterday.
Tomorrow- if it carried on- I'd take her to see Michael.
"What will grandma do?"
"What do you mean?"
"To me,"
She looked petrified, and I couldn't begin to imagine what she was thinking about.
"Nothing, unless you want her to watch a film with your or something,"
"When does she work?"
"I'm the evening, after I pick you up,"
I resorted to carrying her to the car, more than concerned about her state. It had come on so quickly, and her weakness was showing.
Ideally, I'd take her to Michael, but as of now, there wasn't an appointment until tomorrow. Today was when we gave practically free treatment to those who couldn't afford it, or weren't on one of our programmes.
"I think I'm going to be sick,"
"Okay, deep breaths because we are almost at grandmas," I said, turning the air con on.
The more I studied her face, and her appearance, the more worried I grew. She was limp, and although paler, her cheeks were a little rosy. Her nose ran, and she was clutching her stomach.
"I know this all sucks, but when you get to grandmas, you need to change your pad okay?"
"I can't,"
"You can babygirl,"
"Why do you talk about it so normally?"
I furrowed my eyebrows, stopping the car on the path by mum's .
"Because you're my daughter, and I'm here to help. You're a girl, it's normal for a lot of girls to get it, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. If you don't realise you're supposed to do something like that, you could get an infection or feel embarrassed. Just because I'm a man, it doesn't mean you can't talk to me about it,"
"It feels weird because you haven't had it,"
"I get that, I do get it, but at the same time Ava, you can speak to me, otherwise I'll have to speak to you first," I chuckled, getting out the car.
Mum met us at the door, looking a little more run down than usual.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm not feeling great myself,"
"Oh, you relax at home. It's okay,"
"No," she croaked.
"Mum, get yourself up to bed. I'd rather have her in the office with some doctors, than my mum who is sick herself. Rest up,"
She nodded and smiled, blowing a kiss to Ava, who was starting to cry again. I got her back in the car and headed towards work.
"Where am I going?"
"Luke and Michael's office. If anything, and I mean anything, is up, there's a button in there and a doctor will come,"
"Can't you have the day off?"
