I am confused. He called her Tooru? So what? She looks a lot like me. Like, we could even be twins. Iwa spent a lot of time with me, especially the last few days. It's not that surprising that he accidently called her Tooru. I mean, I sometimes call Makki Mattsun too. Or Mattsun Makki.
However, my cousin is crying, so Iwa must've really hurt her. I decide to call him. 'Iwa-chan. You made her cry?' I ask, a little bit of anger shining through my calm voice. 'Oikawa... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. What did she tell you?' he sighs. He sounds sad. 'She said you called her Tooru.' I blush a bit as I realize that he said my first name again. 'Is that all?' he asks, a bit surprised. 'Is there more to it?' I answer with a question. He clears his throat. Silence.
'Iwa-chan.' I say his nickname sternly. 'You haven't answered all my questions either.' he finally sighed. 'You don't want to tell me things. I don't want to tell you things. If she didn't tell you, it's not important.' 'So... Are you still with her?' I say, trying to hide the hope in my voice. 'No. She broke up with me.' I almost want to jump out of joy until I hear him add a depressed sigh to his sentence.
We talk for a bit longer. I end the call, telling him my dad will be home soon. I hurry home to the one person that will love me unconditionally, finally able to see him after a week.
I slam open the front door, almost flying into my dad's arms. 'Welcome home.' I say as I hug him close. I'm real close to my dad; he's been all I had, together with Iwa, ever since my mom left. His chest still has no timer, his hair turning grey as he's nearing his fifties, he's becoming thinner and smaller. But he is the liveliest and healthiest man I have ever seen.
(Fate laughs, but shuts his mouth as Luck glares at him.)
We sit down and talk about his business trip, play some video games. 'How's Iwaizumi?' he asks. 'He went out with Lana for a while. They broke up today.' I frown. He looks at me, shocked. 'Wow. That's news.' He glances at me from the side. 'So... Are you gonna grab your chance?' he grins. 'Dad!' I soflty punch his arm.
'Seriously, though. I've known you for all your life. It's not just a crush. It's the way I looked at your mom when we just married.' he says, and we fall silent. He beats me in the game. 'Shit.' I sigh. 'If I beat you again next time, you ask him on a date.' he bets. 'If I win, you shut up.' I agree.
It's a close game. The last lap of Mario Kart starts. I am in third place, he is in second. 'Go, princess Peach, go!' I yell at my character. She starts sweating, I close the distance between us. The finish line is in sight, one more jump left. And then, my dad plays a nasty trick: he places a banana on the ramp. I slip and fall into the water, my father finishing before I do, and winning. I sigh.
'He just broke up with his girlfriend, you know.' I sideglance at him. 'I am not blind, Tooru. I've known him since 6 years ago, too.' he answers. 'Fine. I lost. When?' I put my head on the back of the couch and stare at the ceiling. 'Ask him monday or something. Don't rush it.' he answers. 'You are the one rushing me!' I groan. He laughs.
Monday. The day after Lana meets her new love. Poor Iwa.. I wonder how I should do it. Should I tell him I lost a bet? I can't tell him the truth. That's for sure. I'll just have to think of a lie before monday.
