Shenck had scoffed at my mention of an aura and it wasn't long before I heard sirens in the distance drawing nearer and voices and footsteps of reinforcements.

I was handcuffed and shoved into the back of a police cruiser.

Officer Lena was the one to greet me in the interrogation room.

"I saw you not two hours ago and you're back under suspicion of murder for the same man you just asked about."

"Weird coincidence isn't it? Shenck is put into a sticky situation and then he brings me in with the accusation I did something to Helmut."

She glared at me but relayed to me information on the night I came to town.

"Officer Shenck vasn't on duty vhat night, he couldn't have answered a call to the station. Aside from vhat Helmut was reported missing vhat day by his boyfriend and vhat day happened to be vhen you first came to town."

Oh damn, I looked suspicious.

"I'd like a phone call please."

The trio hadn't expected to answer a call from the police and their original presumption was I either got hurt again, in a fight or someone panicked about my knife.

When they were told I was under investigation for a murder they were more than shocked they were in disbelief and proved to have my alibis.

I was released and they drove me home in initial silence.

"Is Helmut veally dead? Ve don't know vhat vas in the horse trough."

I was quiet for a minute, "if it wasn't him it was someone else."

"Another question," Francis began and I could hear the frustration in his voice. "Why the 'ell were you in zhe forest!?"

It took a minute for him to calm down and his dangerous aura to fade away.

"Anna."

"Who?"

"Sweet girl. Schenck's daughter. Told me Helmut disappeared the night I met her father."

"'Ow did you get to talking about her father zhen?"

I relayed the details of our encounter including the fact she wanted to hook up and they looked more interested now.

"Okay vhen, guess ve're hooking up tonight," Gilbert began, "but vhy are you certain Shenck did something. Ve have known him for years and he's been kind and responsible."

"Then why didn't he bring Helmut into the station?"

"Who knows. Helmut probably escaped, he's a tricky one." He explained away.

Shenck really had looked surprised by the horse trough, horrified even.

Maybe I was jumping to conclusions similarly to how he had with me.

"Your alibi holds up for now but this could be a problem in the future," Francis worried.

"Ve know good lawyers, you're safe vith us," Gilbert sighed. He seemed very certain of it and that had me ease up.

The thoughts still plagued me the rest of the day and the feeling of the painful fading aura kept me up at night.

I got water from downstairs around the same time Francis walked in his arm wrapped around Anna.

She blushed, seeing me.

"Is-is she going to vatch?" She stuttered.

Gilbert laughed and pecked her forehead. "Nein, she's not like vhat unfortunately."
