Haylee's POV.
"Stera?" I called out as soon as I walked through the door.

"In my office," she hollered back. I closed the door and walked through the halls towards her downstairs office. She has one on the top floor, connected to her bedroom, but she prefers to use the one downstairs in case of an emergency. I walked into her office.

"Hey," I smiled at her. She gave me her motherly smile. She motioned for me to sit in the loveseat in front of her desk. I obeyed and sat down.

"What's wrong, dear? Is everything okay?"

"It's...it's Johna."

"Oh, good grief. I'm going to bury that boy 6 feet under. What did he do this time?"

"Well, there were rogues when we went to town. They had two pups. So me and an acquaintance shifted and attacked them. Two other females took the kids and hid behind a building. Then Johna and other boys attacked the rogues. Johna told me to run-"

"And did you?"

"No. When it comes to the pack, I won't walk away from defending them," I stated.

"Good answer. And then what happened. Does he know?"

"Yes, he knows I'm pregnant, but I wish he didn't."

"Why?"

"He asked me how would you feel if the rogue that I fought killed our pup. Then he went on to tell me that our pup's death would have been my fault because I "just can't seem to listen to him". He also said, "Are you trying to get our pup killed? 'Cause it seems that way"."

"Oh, darling," Stera mumbled. I was crying because, I know this will sound so selfish...but I was crying because he didn't seem to care if I was okay.

"Do you think he doesn't care about me anymore?" I asked in a whisper.

"Why would you think he doesn't care about you anymore?"

"Because after the fight, he was all pup this and pup that, and he didn't seem to ask if I was okay. He was only concerned for the pup's safety."

"Oh, honey. He's going to be a new father soon, and he's scared. I know I shouldn't be defending my son in the stage, but I also know that women can't always judge their partners either."

Suddenly the door burst open, and Johna yelled, "Mom, have you seen-" He stopped mid-sentence when he seen me sitting there.

"Have I seen whom?" Stera asked with narrow eyes. He swallowed. I turned away from his eyes with a huff.

"If your looking for your Beta he's at the pack house, preparing the meeting for the Luna Dance. Speaking of which, I need to go get ready for that. It's 6:30, and the dance starts at 8:00. Thank you for listening, Stera, but I must hurry if I want to get there on time."

Stera smiled at me as I rose from my seat. We waved at each other. I turned around and walked towards the door to leave. Johna had other plans. He grabbed my wrists, pulling me towards him.

"Let go," I ordered.

"No. We need to talk," he muttered.

"There is nothing to talk about," I answered, shoving him away from me before leaving him alone with his mother.

I took a deep breath. I retreated to the princess's dorm where I used to stay for the first 6 months I lived with Johna. When we got married, I became more attached to staying in his room, but everything but a few outfits are still in that very room. I am so, very glad for that.
